High Mayhem Emerging Arts emerging arts collective, facility & record label based in Santa Fe, NM which challenges the homogenizing effects of pop-culture group-think

Founded in 2001, High Mayhem Emerging Arts is a not-for-profit emerging arts facility, record label and multimedia production collective based in Santa Fe, New Mexico. We challenge the homogenizing effect of pop-culture groupthink by providing opportunities for and fostering collaborations with underrepresented “experimental” artists. High Mayhem curates performances and organizes workshops year-r

ound with musicians and performance artists who come from near and far. We seek out other brave explorers (and welcome those who have discovered us) to join us in producing innovative and thought-provoking experiences for our communities. Further, we encourage and organize collaborative experiments across disciplines; new forms emerge from mutated traditions and pure invention. We provide a venue and voice for creative tinkerers who challenge our notions of aesthetics in music and art, especially those who employ cross-media synthesis, improvisational techniques and the unorthodox…the often indescribable. The group’s members, volunteers and constituents have created a live/work space which allows them to explore their varied interests, commune with one another and experiment with sound, vision, movement…you know, creative adaptive systems. Beyond merely organizing, promoting and producing cutting-edge programming, High Mayhem collaborates with like-minded individuals and organizations.

Some of you asked what we're up to. Here's a brief update:

We are working on a series of Out of Context LP’s to highlight the legacy of JA Dino Deane. The first LP will be from the fantastic live performance of Out of Context at the High Mayhem Festival 2006.

Carlos Santistevan has started a Conduction Project featuring longtime High Mayhem associates that will debut for the OOC LP release – in Spring 2025 at The Outpost Performance Space.

We are also looking to relaunch our On(e) Day “On One Day” webcast series of broadcasting the recording of an album in 1 day. Stay tuned for update.

iNK oN pAPER is playing thier first show in over 5 years on June 23rd in Albuquerque- more soon.

IN DEFENSE OF MEMORY– Laura Ortman, Marshall Trammell, Carlos Santistevan is working with SITE Santa Fe for a large scale “tuning” of the San Miguel Chapel to help address generational trauma and relics still present in these times. Workshop and Performances in August 2024 for Indian Market in Santa Fe NM.

Many other shows here and there featuring HM artists, locally please follow: Santa Fe Noise Ordinance, Sandbox Music, and Cocoon as these are the venues and orgs that are actively booking and presenting us and all kinds of other great art and community. DIY is strong in Santa Fe once again.
