Just a few years ago I was a total beginner gardener. I remember late nights trying to figure out how to grow my own food. It was an incredible amount of work, but 10 months after starting out, I went from growing and foraging about 0% of my food to 100% of my food!
After transforming many lawns into gardens and growing 100 different veggies, fruits and herbs in my gardens, I want to share my top 5 tips for beginner gardeners!
1. Start Small. To get to the garden of your dreams, you need to simply get started. Grow 5 or maybe 10 different herbs and veggies your first season. Grow more every year!
2. Grow What Grows Easily. Talk to local gardeners and ask them what grows so well that they can’t kill it. Start with easy plants. As you become more skilled, you can grow more challenging foods.
3. Garden with Others. Join a community garden. Volunteer on a farm. Learn from those that know what they are doing and have fun! There’s no need to figure it out on your own. Gardeners love help with weeding!
4. Practice Love and Gratitude. One of the most important ingredients for an abundant garden is your care. Spend time every day observing and getting to know your plants so you can best care for them.
5. Plants die and you’ll need to kill some too. Take joy in being a part of the life cycle. Embrace it! Know that plants will die and if they aren’t, it means you aren’t growing any!
This year I want YOU to start growing your own delicious, healthy food, so I’ve designed the perfect seed pack for beginners.
I am sending Free Seed Packs to 10,000 people who don’t have the funds to afford seeds or who grow food for people with low access to healthy food. If this is you, you can sign up for a free seed pack at www.robingreenfield.org/freeseedproject
We’re excited to grow together and to support our community together!
Love,
Robin
