Let us dedicate a day of remembrance for the Filipinos who fought with the resistance!🇵🇭
Today we celebrate the spirits who stood unwavering, the overworked and oppressed Filipino bodies who endured bruises, who risked their lives and the safety of those they love just to grant us the right to have our flag raised, freely waving with the wind. Each time we place our right hand above our chest and sing the anthem of our nation, each time we pledge our allegiance and recite our patriotic oat, we must remember all of what our ancestors went through in order to give our land the independence it has been long deprived of.
Individuals such as Andres Bonifacio, Jose Rizal, Emilio Aguinaldo, Apolinario Mabini, Melchora Aquino and many more fought for the freedom of our country against the colonizers' attempts to suffocate and completely eradicate the rich culture of vibrant diversities pulsing from all 7,640 of our islands to replace with their own. Their sacrifices had given us the liberty to keep wearing our barong and saya, to converse using the abundance of dialects we have and more importantly, their fight had opened the gates of academic places to Filipinos, the opportunity to be a learner, to enhance our intellectual skills to have a chance at a better future, all of this, we owe to their brave souls which with the use of this holiday, we honour.
The celebration of this holiday was signed into law by President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo into Republic Act No. 9492, on July 24, 2007. Under R.A 9492, it is declared that the celebration of National Heroes Day shall be commemorated on the last Monday of August following The President's Holiday Economics program.
