Over the last couple of years a number of DJs from the Seeks Music roster have enjoyed djing at ‘Benfest’ which started out as a birthday celebration, and has turned into a regular mini-festival thing.

This second part moves into cosmic disco and indie house territory with plenty of indie bass lines and soaring cosmic arpeggio melodies from the likes of James Rod and Tulioxi and then a latter half of more techie deep and dreamy house from the likes of Sebastien Leger and Guy Ge**er.

Welcome to the second instalment of our virtual Benfest series and the second part of Chris’ house mix, the first part of which we posted last month (https://www.mixcloud.com/seeksmusic/seeksbeats-benfest-house-mix-part-one/) This second part moves into cosmic disco and indie house territory with ...

Over the last couple of years a number of DJs from the seeks music roster have enjoyed djing at ‘Benfest’ which started out as 40th birthday celebration (can you guess his name?), but continued last year and was planned again this summer at a brand new venue - alas along with the rest of the festival calendar, it had to be postponed until 2021.

However the Benfest organisers decided to deliver a virtual benfest instead on the weekend it was meant to be, which included a number of dj sets delivered via mixcloud live. Over the next few weeks we’ll post some of those mixes on here.

We start out with a regular contributor to our seeksbeats show, chris bassett who delivered an extensive largely house and techno set from saturday night through to the wee small hours of sunday morning. Here we have featured the opening hour and quarter of that set which started fairly funky, but also took in plenty of dreamy deep house and cosmic disco with the odd quirky curveball thrown in here and there.

Hope you enjoy and if you do favourite and share the mix with others…

Two years down the line, after delivering his magnum opus, Listening to the Wind, to the publisher Omnibus in a sports bag, Third Light Home returns with the soundtrack to part two of the book: independent labels of the UK, featuring tracks from Clay Pipe, Touch, Heavenly, Rivertones, Second Language, Arc Light Editions, Pressure Sounds, Injzaero and Zube records (among others).

From Arthur Russell to Joe Higgs, Snow Palms to Mark Lanegan, Claire M. Singer to Vic Mars; experimental ambient electronica, dub, jazz, folk, organ workouts and a few Silver Jews tunes to hopefully lift any autumnal blues.

Incooommmminggh!
An off the wall mix for fans of Deep, Leftfield, Tech and Spacey Houses.

This month Chris has gone for what he is calling a ‘deep and spacey’ mix - lots of tunes from the quirkier side of dance music, with tags such as “trippy”, “cosmic” and “strange” to the fore. Starting off with some typically off-kilter dreaminess from Sebastien Leger, a middle eight ...

In his most recent mixes for Seeks Music Chris has given us his take on indie dance, explored deep and dreamy house music and shown us that vocals can be cool in dance music. This month, there is no specific theme apart from bringing all these elements together with the indie tinged and all round wonkiness of Rebolledo and Superpitcher (who also also perform together as the even stranger Pachanga Boys), the beautifully dreamy opener from Taloboman (John Talabot and Axel Boman) and plenty of wonderful vocals throughout from the likes of Qtier, Julienne Dessagne (half of Saschienne and otherwise known as the Fantastic Twins) and David Harks.

We dropped a delicious new show full of psyche delights yesterday. Fill yr boots. Fill em up.
May contain Thee Oh Sees , King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard , Kurt Vile .

A golden era for modern psychedelic music is upon us. I worshiped at the temples of both Thee Oh Sees and King Gizzard within a few weeks of each other and acknowledged how lucky we are. So much good music and so many drummers! So strap on your prism glasses and settle in then for this 30th edition....

Considering your average underground dance music aficionado is more likely to stick forks in their ears than subject them to ‘vocal house music’, this might seem a strange theme for Chris Bassett to pursue.
He assures us however, this isn’t a mix of wall to wall funky vocal house ‘bangers’, but instead he feels the vocal elements in each of his selections add a certain ‘je ne sais quoi’ to transform a track into something altogether more interesting and alluring to the ears.
Stick your headphones on and take in these ‘voices’ from the hypnotic to the dark and moody to the uplifting to the downright strange, with tracks from Howling, Stimming, Hyenah and Tim Green.

Sneaking this out a couple of days early for you. Chris Bassett returns with a Woomoon inspired mix capturing the chilled sound of Ibiza.

Chris’s inspiration for this mix came from him chancing upon a video stream of the Woomoon closing party in Ibiza last year - an amazing spectacle with all kinds of weird and wonderful performance art mixed in with a deeper, dreamier, more traditionally Balearic musical sound than the typical tech h...

At Antiswarm Towers Halloween is a no-brainer. Easily the best holiday – vampires, dry ice, werewolves, and of course spooky tunes. n response to the EU referendum, Third Light Home relocates to mainland Europe and takes in soothing recordings of the sea off the Iberian peninsula, free jazz from 1960s Paris, melancholy strings from Berlin, muted trumpet from Stockholm and Paris, and Asturian bagpipe tunes from 1930. This show marks a bit of a departure from Chris’ usual deep/tech house style with a mix that has a fairly distinct ‘indie’ sound…

Chris’ mix this month is his take on the current ‘indie dance’ sound as he sees it – as it’s mixed, it’s more ‘dance’ than ‘indie’, but you will hear a definite indie slant with contributions from Red Axes, FK Club, Vox Low and Lauer. Enjoy something a bit different… and if you do share it with others

’tis the season to be jolly and all that malarkey and in this December show Chris takes the time to reflect back on a year which has been eventful as far as dance music bucket list items are concerned with Ibiza, Berlin and a Dixon/Ame Innervisions extravaganza at Fabric all ticked off in the last year.
You’ll find some of his usual deep tech house vibes which you’re likely to hear after hours in the clubs of Berlin from the likes of Axel Boman and SCSI-9, working up through some housier Ibiza fares from the likes of Andhim and also one of the tunes of the year from Frankey and Sandrino on the Innervisions label and rounding off with the kind of curveball that Dixon might include in one of his sets to such good effect (one of the reasons why he’s been voted resident advisor dj of the year for a third year running)…

As a teenage boy his cut down denim had patches of Motorhead, Kiss, Saxon, Iron Maiden and AC/DC. His taste hasn't improved a lot since then. Third Light Home rakes up a few 1990s gems (the distressed cd sounds of Oval; Songs from Su***de Bridge; the heyday of drum & bass), keeps it real with the sounds of today (from Blank Realm and Helen to Nap Eyes and Tint), once again re-visits the Treasure Isle (circa 1968‒74) and enjoys mushy peas and mint sauce, fairground organs and pumping techno at Nottingham’s Goose Fair.

Third Light Home (aka Ian Preece) was part of the Wireless ‘massive’ of djs in the nineties, proud custodians of a club night Upstairs at the Garage in London. Tired of being hassled to play either too much house music, or Queen, and having once been accused of playing something ‘funded by the f**ki…

Better late than never but never late is better. Festival season is well out the way so we're back in order. Young Thug keeps us guessing with his incomprehensible lyrics while Drake & Future turn the hip hop world upside down, for now. Trapping stories aside Murlo, Klyne and Sango keep things merry and eclectic. Oh and the mixing still needs practice and lots of it

For Jamie, music comes first - followed by a (some might say unhealthy) love for trainers and then not far behind is a strong interest in running. Fortunately, these things all go hand in hand quite well. With experience in music synchronisation and supervision, he’s been exposed to everything and a…
