The first team to win the tournament back-to-back away from home - a statistic Leinster-bound coach Jacques Nienaber underlined in the build-up - and are now the undeniable dominant force in World Cup history.

Their latest victory means the Springboks have won half of the eight tournaments they have taken part in. South Africa were absent from the first two editions because of the sporting exile imposed by the rest of the world in reaction to the country's apartheid government.

On Saturday, one of them will become the first nation to reach a coveted fourth title, with South Africa aiming to join their rivals in being the only sides to win it back-to-back.

Senegal's President Macky Sall has decided not to run for a third term in 2024, ending the widespread speculation that he will seek an extension of his mandate. "The 2019 term was my second and last term," he said in a televised address.

Rumours he would try to extend his grip on power have fuelled unrest several times since 2021, with dozens killed.

If Mr. Sall decided to seek a second term, the opposition called for fresh protests which many legal experts said would be unconstitutional.

Rwanda claims to have a "excellent record of taking care of refugees" and has questioned a UK court decision that found it was illegal to transfer their asylum seekers to Rwanda.

Yvonne Makolo, a spokeswoman for the Rwandan government, told the BBC's Newsday programme that judges were mistaken when they claimed there weren't adequate assurances that Rwanda wouldn't send refugees back to their home countries, referring to it as "a very narrow aspect of this issue".

The UN refugee convention was signed by Rwanda, according to her, and "we do not in policy or practise send back to dangerous situations."

Sierra Leone's presidential election has been declared won by incumbent Julius Maada Bio, although the opposition has challenged the results.
According to official estimates, Mr Bio received 56% of the vote. Samura Kamara, his major rival, fell far behind with 41%.
A contender must receive more than 55% of the vote to win outright and avoid a second round.
Dr. Kamara branded the first round of results "daylight robbery" when they were announced on Monday.
International election monitors have raised concerns about the lack of openness in the tallying process.

As Macron condemns the 'inexcusable' police shooting of a juvenile motorist, France braced for protests.

The shooting death of a 17-year-old delivery driver by police was described as "inexcusable" by French President Emmanuel Macron, who urged for restraint as justice is carried out. Following a night of sporadic unrest brought on by the murder, the government increased the police presence in Paris and other major cities on Wednesday.

The African Union (AU) force in Somalia has handed over three more military bases to the Somali army as part of a gradual withdrawal meant to conclude by the end of next year.

By the end of June the plan is to withdraw around 2,000 troops from Somalia.

Tuesday’s handover took place in Adale, Mirtaqwa and Hajji Ali, in the Middle Shabelle region, bases which fell under the control of the mission’s Burundian contingent.

So far this year the AU force has handed over six military bases, five of them in Middle Shabelle.

Russian military advisers would continue to work with forces in the Central African Republic (CAR), but the Wagner mercenary group's operations in the country were its own business, according to a Kremlin spokeswoman quoted by Reuters.

Dmitry Peskov's remarks appear to have done little to clarify the fate of the thousands of Russian mercenaries who had been deployed in Africa following the failed weekend insurrection.

They are fighting rebels in the Central African Republic and assisting the junta in Mali in its fight against Islamist militants.

Wagner maintains a network of enterprises that have explored commercial ventures ranging from gold mining to vodka production in nations where the mercenary company performs security assignments.

The four-year visas were frequently renewed, but the government announced in 2021 that it would stop the scheme that permitted Zimbabweans to live and work in South Africa.

Nigeria recently opened the largest oil refinery in Africa, which is expected to help with the country's ongoing fuel shortages.

Nigeria is a big producer of oil, but the majority of this is exported, and it must import the refined petroleum used in cars and other machinery.

As a result, the nation frequently experiences ongoing gasoline shortages.

This is the issue that Aliko Dangote, the richest man in Africa, hopes to solve with his $19 billion (£15.2 billion) refinery.

A corruption case involving Malawi's Vice-President Saulos Chilima has been forwarded to the High Court by a magistrate's court in the nation's capital Lilongwe.

The Malawi Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) has charged Mr. Chilima with collecting $280,000 (£230,000) and other unspecified things from a British businessman. All six of the accusations against him are rejected.

After being detained in November of last year, Mr. Chilima was given court bail.

The anti-graft organization had stated at the time that it wanted the case transferred from the lower court to the Financial Crimes Unit of the Malawi High Court due to its complexity.

A presidential amnesty decision intended to relieve pressure on the nation's overcrowded jails has resulted in the release of approximately a fifth of all convicts in Zimbabwe.

In what it called a wonderful act, the Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Service (ZPCS) said that more than 4,000 prisoners, the majority of whom were men, were released.

Excluded from the program were violent offenders as well as those found guilty of robbery, treason, and public order infractions.

In Zimbabwe, there is a severe prison overpopulation problem.

Prior to the general elections in August, the action was taken.

Long lineups at petrol stations are common in Ethiopia's capital, where fuel is frequently scarce. But the queues two weeks ago weren't about fuel; they were about money.

A new government-mandated cashless payment system clogged traffic as drivers spent hours attempting to activate accounts, remember passwords, and troubleshoot system malfunctions. While drivers claim the system has improved since then, they say it is still far from perfect.

Citizens angered by the government's choice to push the adoption of telebirr, the state-owned telecom giant Ethio Telecom's mobile money network, pushing out potential smaller rivals.

The Pope disrobes a Rwandan priest suspected of fathering a kid.Pope Francis has removed from the priesthood a Rwandan-born man who had been a clergyman in northern France for over three decades.

According to an online communiqué signed by the bishop of Évreux, Wenceslas Munyeshyaka, 64, "automatically loses clerical rights" and "is excluded" from ministering "anywhere else" as a priest.

The Office of the Diocese of Évreux confirmed to the BBC the legitimacy of the communiqué, which claims to be based on a March papal order.

Mr Munyeshyaka, who escaped to France following the 1994 Rwandan genocide, has not reacted on the ruling.
