7 Best Strategies for Success in School Pt1
1. Attend every class 📚 .
Going to every class helps you to be engaged with the subject , the instructor and the students . Most students intentionally miss first classes or lectures as they do not see the relevant of it . However, think of the tuition you are paying and what it costs to cut a class.
2. Be an active participant ✋🏾.
Always go to class on time and sit in front as it will prevent distractions . Have the courage to contribute in classroom discussions, ask questions for better clarifications . By doing so , you will be engaged in class and the course or subject will be interesting to you.
3. Go to class prepared 🧠.
In every first lessons , you will provided with course outline and requirements, assessment and reading materials . Download all reading materials in the course outline and read ahead of time before going to class. As you go through the course materials , highlight the key points and concepts , and put question marks to anything you do not understand and ask them during lessons .
4. Know your instructors 🧑🏫.
Make it a point to know all your instructors by their preferred names and titles . Find their email addresses on the course outlines and email them when necessary. NB: Phone calls are not advisable 🧏🏽.
Always arrive early for class and contribute regularly , as it will help your instructors to know you better.
NB ; Visit your course instructors during office hours to discuss anything you do not understand.
5. Join a Study Team 👨👩👧👦.
You will always learn more by studying with others than reading on your own. One of the first thing I did on campus was to join a study group and I have never regretted. Joint a study team will motivate you to learn hard so that you can also contribute to group discussions .
In a study team , diverse ideas and perspectives will be discussed during meetings for better understanding of concepts.
6. Set a Target🎯.
Without a goal , nothing can be achieved . As the semester begins , set your target for each course as it will motivate you to work harder till the end of the time . Know the GPA you want to achieve for the semester, as it will drive your actions and activities in school.
NB: Get a sticky note and write your target GPA and paste it in your bedroom.
7. Map out your day , week and semester 📆.
Put all of your homework, scheduled exams, meetings, daily objectives, and top priorities in writing on your calendar. Every day, go over your goals and calendar. Wait to socialize until you've taken care of your main priorities.
