For most pickleball players, there comes a time when it feels necessary to get rid of the old twenty-dollar paddle and opt for a nicer, more expensive one. Higher-end paddles can be pricey, and the worst feeling in the world is questioning if the money was worth the paddle that now sits in hand. So, to ensure customer satisfaction and eliminate buyer’s remorse, many clubs around the country are offering paddle demos. The Pickleball Club at Monroe is one such club. The Happy Trails Pickleball Club, located in Surprise, Arizona, is not only a largely successful club sporting over 500 members, but the club is also integral to the history of pickleball. In 2001, pickleball was introduced to the Arizona Senior Olympics for the first time, and Happy Trails got the honor of hosting the event which boasted over 100 participants. Now, this historical club contributes to the sport by hosting the annual Happy Trails Classic Pickleball Tournament. The Classic is played on 10 lighted, outdoor courts and invites players 50 and older between the 3.0 and 5.0 skill level to come play in possibly the most long-enduring tournament in the area. The tournament has been around for 18 years and has recently hosted over 400 participants.

A nonprofit organization in central California has adopted a progressive strategy to foster the local expansion of interest in pickleball while adapting to the surrounding community. The mission of Fresno Area Pickleball is to promote and support pickleball at public courts in central San Joaquin Valley. One of the largest focuses of the organization is to earn the trust of the population, which assists in securing participants and donations as a 501(c)(3). All facets of the establishment work together to allow Fresno Area Pickleball to serve the needs of the county while remaining a nonprofit organization.

For the Gwinnett Pickleball Club, their preferred way of playing pickleball is through ladder leagues. Ladder leagues are at the very core of Gwinnett Pickleball’s life and culture. The Flying Pickle came to life in a partnership with Cushing Terrell, a multidisciplinary design team that focuses on providing systems and spaces that help people live their best lives. At its inception, “we were the core and shell designers for the industrial warehouse that would become the home of The Flying Pickle,” explains Josh Shiverick, Project Manager at Cushing Terrell. Hope College, located in Holland, Michigan, has a long list of student clubs and organizations from fly fishing, to outdoor adventure clubs, and more. Over the past year, the newly added pickleball club has gained traction within the student body, boasting an average of 50 students showing up weekly to participate in practices. Club President Nate Jobson says, “We encourage students to join through campus advertisements, like putting meetings in the weekly campus emails or on the TVs around the school. We also use Instagram to post events, and those will often get put up on other campus accounts.”
