We are thrilled to announce that Borrowed From Nature is officially airing on Japan’s biggest broadcaster, NHK, on December 6th, 10:40pm Japan Time.

This is a great honour and we are so proud to have made it this far. A big congratulations to our director, Guillaume Carlier, and producers Nicola Waugh and Gillian McKercher. To all the help we received from the Nikkei National Museum & Cultural Centre in Burnaby, the Nikkei Internment Memorial Centre National Historic Site in New Denver, and the three gardens, Nitobe Memorial Garden at UBC, Heiwa Teien in New Denver, and Nikka Yuko Japanese Garden in Lethbridge.

We also want to thank Linda Kawamoto Reid, who wrote, refined, researched, and helped us every step of the way. And of course, Bryce Zimmerman for beautifully capturing the film, and Hiro Okusa for guiding and mentoring us.

There are so many criminal cases that deserve a second look. But with a case revolving around a boxing legend and icon, how could their murder file be swept aside and stamped with “SOLVED” when so many questions still linger?

Montreal boxer and world champion Arturo Gatti was found dead in 2009, supposedly having hung himself with his wife's purse straps. The new true-crime series THUNDER: THE LIFE & DEATH OF ARTURO GATTI, from Calgary director Guillaume Carlier (Kino Sum Productions), explores forensic evidence that had been overlooked at the time and uncovers a new narrative, as well as presenting new information that the public has never before seen. Arturo's story touches on boxing, mental health, and the dark side of the established press. A must-watch!
