Hey guys, this week we had an interview with Chirag Shah:
1. When did you know you wanted to become a DJ?
I didn't know I wanted to become a DJ until after coming across EDM. This was about 2005, when i started listening to Trance. I was intrigued by what I heard and got interested in how djs played and produced music.
2. Do you have a side job other than DJing?
Uurrrrm at the moment no. But I wouldn't call it unemployed cause, your only unemployed when your actively seeking a job.
3. Who are your DJing Idols?
There's too many to name but Gareth Emery, Ben Gold, Above & Beyond, Sander van Doorn, Paul van Dyk, Markus Schulz and Arty would be my idols. Not forgetting the old Tiesto.
4. Who would you like to DJ alongside?
No one really, kind of have like an "Armin Only" thing...lol just kidding...
I'd like to play along side Kess'emir, Suraj Mandavia, Bereket Antonio Stefano & Barney Barrow. (TRANCE DJs) Other than that i'd like to play along side BEN GOLD cause he's a LEGEND!!
5. Where do you see yourself in the next 5 years?
Honestly I don't know. Taking life as it comes.
6. What’s a typical day in Your life?
Let me keep this short and simple, I'm always just chilling.
7. What’s your favorite day of the week and why?
Has to be Fridays, cause the local club Ministry of Sound would always have Trance djs playing and also cause its the beginning of every weekend.
8. What’s your worst day of the week and why?
Wednesday cause its mid-week, when there is actually nothing to do but to look forward to the weekend.
9. Favorite food?
Love Italian food!!
10. Most embarrassing thing that’s happened to you?
Urmm...having the cops telling me to lower or shut down the music while i was playing my set. (only happens in kenya)
11. What’s your favorite event to date?
Has to be 25/07/ 2009- 1st time i played at Ministry of Sound.
And also SENSATION: WHITE 2011- LONDON (every EDM peson needs to attend this)
12. Best crowd you ever played for?
A Kenyan crowd, cause they know how to party!!!
13. What’s the most unforgettable moment in your DJing career?
Playing at Ministry of Sound.
14. What’s best place you played at and why?
Again Ministry of Sound. Why? Cause the atmosphere there is just amazing its like once you walk-in you'll jus get into the music and the crowd is just amazing!!
15. What inspired you to become a DJ?
Music is my only passion. I have always had an interest in music since a young age. But what really inspired me to be a dj was 1 video, thinks its still up on youtube, its about Sensation: White 2004.
17. What’s your favorite drink on n off stage?
Onstage- gin & tonic
Off stage- double jamesons & ginger-ale or sprite.
18. What do you think about the situation of dance music globally in relation to other genres of music?
EDM, has grown all over the world. More and more people are getting into EDM daily. Its becoming apart of everyday life style.
19. What is your best tune of 2011, so far?
Gareth Emery & Ben Gold- Flash (Original Mix)
20. Who do you think is the best breakthrough DJ/producer of 2011?
Locally- Suraj Mandavia & Aditya Prabhu- they both need to be heard at very high volumes!!
Internationally- think he would be considered internationally now, he got his own show on sense.fm has to be Kess'emir
21. Who do you think is the most underrated DJ?
Eugenio Donnaccia Battocchi- he has a lot of talent and needs a lot more exposure to thrive in what he does best.
22. Do you have any advice for people who want to start DJing?
Urrm really don't what to say, everyone wants to become a dj.
But the world is in the palm of your hands. DO IT FOR THE MUSIC MORE THAN ANYTHING ELSE.
23. DJ/producer to watch out for in 2011?
Watch out for all of them locally and internationally, cause every set/single/ demo etc. each dj gets out there has something unique about it and you'll only know if you understand the music.
