Bro Radio 98.1FM
After years of hard work, we're finally expanding on our signal coverage.
Please see the below press release issued by Bro Radio and our Station Manager, Gareth Sweeney. We hope you like what you read:
"The local community radio station, Bro Radio 98.1FM is set to get bigger in the near future.
Broadcasting since 2009, the station broadcasts locally produced programmes, created by around 40 volunteers and two paid members of staff. (Station Manager and Sponsorship and Funding Manager.)
Since last year, Bro Radio has been talking to its listeners about how it can improve and build on its achievements and one topic that is continually brought up is its coverage on FM.
During this time, the Bro Radio Management team has been working hard in the background to secure the funding to move the transmitter to a more prominent area, allowing for much better coverage on FM in the Vale of Glamorgan. Recently they had the great news that their hard work had paid off and the money to relocate the mast had been found.
Gareth Sweeney, Station Manager said: “it goes without saying that this is fantastic news for the station, our audience and many volunteers. We have been listening to our current audience and consulted with the wider areas that we don’t yet cover and found that there is a need for our service.”
He continued “By expanding on our already very successful station, we will be able to now offer more professional training, which is conducted by experienced personnel, expand on volunteer opportunities, offer affordable advertising to local businesses and charities, enable more people to tune in on their FM radios and continue to bring locally relevant news and information to a wider audience.”
The transmitter funding has been secured from various sources, including grants from Barry Town Council, Llandough Community Council, from listeners via CrowdFunding and on air advertisers between October and December 2015. Without them, this move wouldn't have been able to go ahead.
Bro Radio broadcasts from its studios at the YMCA Barry, who it continues to have a strong partnership with. It also works in partnership with the Vale of Glamorgan Council.
The station say that they hope the move can go ahead very soon and to keep up to date, keep an eye on the Bro Radio page."
