We regret to inform you that the organization will no longer hold an annual awards program. For broadcast journalists, the awards will now be handled by the Louisiana Association of Broadcasters and the Mississippi Association of Broadcasters respectively.

Dear AP members:
The Louisiana-Mississippi AP Broadcasters & Media Editors has been monitoring the evolving situation on coronavirus in Louisiana, Mississippi and the U.S. Because of the public health emergency we are facing, the LA-MS APBME board believes that it is not possible to move forward with this year’s awards ceremony scheduled for April 18 in Baton Rouge.

The board did not make the decision lightly, but felt it was the best course of action at this time in the country’s collective effort to stem the spread of the virus.

We are discussing a way to celebrate the winners that does not involve a social gathering, and we expect to have more details shortly. A list of finalists is posted to http://discover.ap.org/contests/louisiana-mississippi.

Louisiana-Mississippi AP Broadcasters & Media Editors Awards Banquet Sponsored by the University of Mississippi’s School of Journalism and New Media

Registration is open for the annual awards banquet for the Louisiana-Mississippi AP Broadcasters and Media Editors to honor the states’ best newspaper and broadcast journalism in 2018. This year’s event is sponsored by the School of Journalism and New Media at the University of Mississippi.

The awards presentation will be held Saturday, April 6, 2019 at the Two Mississippi Museums in downtown Jackson starting with a reception at 5:30 p.m., followed by dinner and the awards presentation at 7 p.m.

The deadline to register is Monday, April 1. The cost is $55 per person. No walkup registrations will be accepted.

Registration is now open for the Louisiana-Mississippi AP Broadcasters and Media Editors professional awards banquet to be held Saturday, April 7, at the World War II Museum in New Orleans.

The awards presentation will recognize the best of journalism for broadcasters and newspapers in 2017.

Congratulations to the following who are the latest inductees into the Mississippi Associated Press Broadcasters Hall of Fame:

John Dolusic WTVA-TV
Bill Gamel WCBI-TV
Brad Kessie WLOX-TV

The Mississippi AP Broadcasters Hall of Fame honors journalists with distinguished broadcasting careers in the state. Those eligible for induction include reporters, producers, anchors, news directors, videographers and other news staff who have worked in Mississippi for at least five years.

Winners were selected by the MAPB Board of Directors in voting this week.

All four will be recognized at the Louisiana-Mississippi AP Broadcasters and Media Editors awards banquet April 7 at the World War II Museum in New Orleans.
