Akron Comicon

If you're in the Northeast Ohio area this Saturday make sure to swing by the Akron Comicon where I'll be joined by Eric Watkins at the Broken Icon Comics table - C18. They'll be a nice selection of talented artists and writers selling comics, prints and original art. A full schedule of fascinating panels, a costume contests and comic vendors selling anything related to pop culture. Before jumping on Horror Show last year Doug Hufford and I had produced the first five pages of Yuri Issue 3. So for next week's Ohio Comic Con we've decided to put together a rough cut preview of Yuri Issue 3 with those first five pages. These will be small ashcan size books with special Yuri sketches and will be given away FREE if you purchase any other Yuri merchandise. Of course I'll also have Horror Show books and if you ask nicely I'll show you select pages on Horror Show 2 currently in production. In the meantime, here's a panel from the Yuri issue 3 preview. I found these old Wizard World Exclusive sketch covers of Yuri Issue 1 last night while organizing my comic stuff. I have 10 left and, since they were made for Wizard World, I will not be taking them to cons. But I'll be more than happy to deface these for you with Yuri, Scarsgard, Batman, Deadpool, Dr Who, Spider-man, Spider Jerusalem or anybody you may want. $15 + shipping. Message me if interested.

Thanks everyone for making it out to one of the coolest cons of the year. SPACE 2012 (Small Press & Alternative Comics Expo) has such a great community vibe and I wish I could have wandered more and reconnect with some of the great creators that I've grown to know and respect so much. Doug's working on our SPACE wrapup and we'll have it posted on the Yuri site later today.

March 19th has come and gone and we were so busy we didn't even notice. What's the significance of March 19th you ask? March 19 2011 was the launch day of www.YuriTheComic.com and the release day of the first Yuri book, the Yuri Prologue. We unveiled the book at SPACE (Small Press Alternative Comics Expo) and haven't looked back since. Now is a good time to reflect since the current SPACE convention will be here in a week and a half. Since then we have published 39 pages of story as well as a pinup or two. We've been all over Ohio and participated in 2 outstanding inaugural Kentucky conventions. We've met thousands of hungry comic book fans looking for something different than the larger publishers produce. We won an awesome publishing contest by Packrat Comics and met many other self publishers whom I would gladly call my friends. And we did all this while working full time jobs, second jobs and raising kids. We may not have a large DC or Marvel on our cover but I assure you we wouldn't have it any other way. And we're not finished yet. Doug and I have been developing other stories including a historical graphic novel that I've been thinking about since 2007. It's a great time to create comics and I assure you, we've got a lot more Yuri on the way. And just maybe we'll bring back the Yuri-fied movie quote contests for some free ATCs.
