The Drunk Projectionist A podcast that's buzzed about movies. At the dawn of the digital age, we settled in to watch a Russian film at a regional film festival.

At The Drunk Projectionist we believe in film—not digital reproductions of film—and watching movies in public places with other people. When the movie began, pixelated words appeared on the screen and we lost it, yelling "What the f---?" and left in a huff. During short trips, we often tuck into movie houses screening great, or just odd, films.

Dave, It's Been 50 Years Since You Unplugged Me. (All kinds of cool 2001 stories.)

Fifty years ago, I convinced my mother to let me see 2001: A Space Odyssey . I was 8-years-old and knew nothing about Stanley Kubrick or evolution or much of anything. After dropping me off at the theater, I settled in and waited for cool space stuff to happen. Instead, apes fought.

We probably should have titled this post "Dennis Hopper's OTHER camera." Turns out the director and actor was quite the shutterbug.

In 1961, Dennis Hopper's first wife bought him a camera. Soon the actor — and future director of 1969's Easy Rider — was clicking photos of nearly everything around him. That everything turned out to be Ike and Tina Turner, Goldie Hawn, Civil Rights demonstrators on the road to Montgomery, A

Our Story

I started The Drunk Projectionist because I care about movies. While I do like cocktails, the podcast is sober. I guess the drunk refers to how I feel about film. When I experience a really good one, I do get buzzed. Instead of just me chatting about stuff I like or hate, I interview the pros: directors, actors and cinematographers so they can reveal what makes brilliant movies timeless. From 70s classics to silents to today, The Drunk Projectionist podcast goes deep to understand what's on the screen, how it got there and why it works or doesn't.

So far, I’ve interested several super talented people, including directors Kelly Reichardt, Charles Burnett, Barbara Kopple and Frederick Wiseman. So find us on iTunes or Stitcher or just hang out here and I’ll post some cool movie stuff.
