How They Listen To Nnamdi Kanu: Pick and Choose

By Emeka Maduewesi
He killed his brother and blamed the Bible. Being a Christian fundamentalist, he had made the decision that he would always consult the Bible before doing anything significant. Although he had read the Bible from cover to cover, whenever he wanted special inspiration, he would close his eyes, open the Bible randomly, and point at any part of the opened pages. He would then open his eyes and read the verse on which his index finger rested. Most times he would make a second trip before forming his opinion and taking the necessary action. He would first open the Bible from a position that would likely be the Old Testament, before validating it with the New Testament.
The day he killed his brother, his index finger had rested on these words, “Cain attacked his brother Abel and killed him.” It was from the Old Testament. Following his custom, he did a second take for guidance and validation from the New Testament. His finger rested on these words, “You go, and do likewise.” So, he killed his brother and swore Jesus specifically asked him to do what Cain did to Abel.
That's how some Igbos listen to Mazi Nnamdi Kanu. They pick and choose which aspects of his broadcasts they want to “hear” and react to. If during an hour-long broadcast, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu spent 3 minutes calling out Igbo pastors, they will use their index fingers to point at the 3-minutes tirade on the pastors. They will forget that Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., was a pastor who died for civil rights.
If in a two-hour broadcast, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu mentioned stoning Igbo political leaders and elders, they will forget everything he said in that broadcast and leech onto the stoning of elders and politicians. No one has yet stoned Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi who at one time encouraged Nigerians to stone their leaders to deter them from looting our commonwealth. I guess Nigeria’s public funds are safe now.
We like cheap shots. We love finger-pointing. We pick and choose what to react to and what to “jump and pass” in any broadcast or publication. Gradually, the Igbo nation is crystallizing into three camps; on the one hand, are the “One Nigerians” who oppose the IPOB and the quest for self-determination, and on another are those who support the IPOB to the hilt, and yet another are those who support the IPOB but oppose the methodologies. I am more concerned about the last two groups. They bring to mind the story of the last two Jews in Kabul, Ishaq Levin, and Zablon Simintov.
For years Afghanistan's last two Jews carried on a bitter feud. From the Taliban tyranny to the American occupation, Ishaq Levin and Zablon Simintov squabbled and plotted against one another in Kabul's Flower Street Synagogue. The only thing they could agree on was their mutual loathing. The pair lived at opposite ends of the synagogue, refusing to speak except to exchange curses. Both were jailed and tortured by the Taliban. Each accused the other of betrayal.
The acrimony first erupted in 1998 when, according to Simintov, Jewish elders told him to bring the elderly Levin to Israel. Levin refused to go, and each man accused the other of wanting to sell the synagogue. The rift deepened when the Taliban took their Torah Scrolls, a lambskin containing Jewish law. When Levin died, police suspected Simintov of murder until a post-mortem examination showed natural causes.
So, what's the update on Kabul's Flower Street Synagogue (which I liken to Igboland) that Ishaq Levin and Zablon Simintov refused to unite as brothers to protect? After Levin’s death, Simintov was alone in the two-storey complex. His carpet shop was long gone, he lived in penury, asking visitors for whiskey and phone cards. Down the hall, tattered religious texts were piled in a cupboard, and thick dust coats the altar along with globs of excrement from birds which nest in the light fittings. Levin's apartment is directly underneath. It has been sealed by police but through paint-splattered windows can be seen broken furniture, clothes spilling from a chest, and stacks of useless banknotes from the former regime piled on the carpet.
Ishaq Levin and Zablon Simintov simply refused to coexist. They had survived the Taliban, but did not survive each other. When Mr. Levin died in January 2005, it would seem that Mr. Simintov won. He got the Synagogue to himself and in Kabul's soaring property market, the building is worth several million dollars. But he was alone in the two-storey complex of empty rooms, lived in penury, and depended on strangers for sustenance.
Those against IPOB in any form seem to lack the brains to appreciate the monstrosity of the problems facing Southern Nigeria generally and the Igbos in particular. Like Ishaq Levin and Zablon Simintov, they continue to cast blames and point fingers over the future of Igboland, as if we have simply refused to coexist. But how much is Igboland worth to you? How would Igboland be saved from the Fulani scourge?
The truth is that the only credible opposition against the injustices and the monumental failure of governance in Nigeria is the IPOB. The IPOB is the voice of the voiceless. Fortunately, this same IPOB is the only group the federal government of Nigeria pays any attention to, knowing that IPOBians are not political prostitutes. Ask yourselves, “While Ishaq Levin and Zablon Simintov survived the Taliban, will you survive the Fulani invasion?”
Mazi Nnamdi Kanu is the voice of millions of voiceless Nigerians who are being physically and mentally abused by the Nigerian state every day, year in year out. Nnamdi Kanu is the voice of millions of Nigerians, irrespective of their ethnicity, who have no platform to put their point of view out there for the world to hear. Mazi Nnamdi Kanu’s mouth is their only weapon against the ruling class and those of you who enable them. Nnamdi Kanu is a non-violent protester. If his sharp mouth shoots you or any of your loved ones, (like your elders or pastors), consider it a shock therapy to rouse you from your sleeping state into rethinking your circumstances in the failed Nigerian state.
While the world sees Nnamdi Kanu as the symbol of Igbo resilience and Biafra’s self-determination, how does the world see you? Who are you? What do you represent? Where do you stand on the Igbo question? How exactly will history remember you? That you stood firm in opposition to tyranny, or that you prevaricated and ran around like the testicles of the village lunatic? Go ahead, pick and choose; will you rethink Nigerian’s failed state and actually do something about it, or will go about complaining about someone who poured cold water on you to wake you up for the journey of your life?
Permit me to conclude this essay with the immortal words of Frantz Fanon, in African Revolution: Political Essays, “The future will have no pity for those men who, possessing the exceptional privilege of being able to speak words of truth to their oppressors, have taken refuge in an attitude of passivity, of mute indifference, and sometimes of cold complicity.”

Olisa Metuh's ₦400 million lifetime 'loot' vs El Rufai's ₦600 million MONTHLY security vote
By Emeka Maduewesi
Both confessed.
First, the Mallam.
According to now Governor El Rufai of Kaduna State in his author biography "The Accidental Public Servant", his 'security vote' when he was the Minister for the Federal Capital Territory was N600million 'only' per month.
The Mallams went further to disclose that the security vote was used to facilitate the work of the SSS agents and pay off 'informants' including commercial s*x workers, bartenders, hotel receptionists and the like. Yes, ₦600 fu***ng million a month. At that time Minister El Rufai was a member of the People's Democratic Party (PDP).
Then the Chief.
According to Chief Olisa Metuh, the then National Publicity Secretary of the People's Democratic Party (PDP), he was directed by then President Goodluck Jonathan, his party leader, to meet the National Security Adviser Sambo Dasuki and collect ₦400 million for specified purposes.
While Mallam El Rufai enjoyed ₦600 million EVERY MONTH, NO QUESTIONS ASK, to secure Abuja FCT using the most formidable team made up of the SSS, prostitutes, bartenders and hotel receptionists, Olisa Metuh had a one time payment of ₦400 million for undisclosed but specific Presidential directives.
Do you have the capacity to think? Can you reason like someone with some semblance of brain? Let's think. Let's check out a few points.
Does the president have a security vote? The truth is that I don't know.
Did El Rufai have the right to spend ₦600 million every month on the SSS, prostitutes, bartenders and hotel receptionists NO QUESTIONS ASKED? I guess the answer is YES. After all, no one has arrested him.
Now, Olisa Metuh collected ₦400 million from the National Security Adviser. Let that sink down.
₦400 million.
National Security.
If Olisa Metuh now decides to render account and includes DMI, SSS, prostitutes, taxi drivers, hotel receptionists and bartenders as members of his national security team, would that be okay?
If Olisa Metuh joins APC, just like El Rufai, do you think his leprosy will be cleansed by that political Sea of Galilee? Why should what is good for Rufai not be good for Metuh? Has it anything to do with party or ethnicity. By the way, El Rufai is Fulani like President Buhari while Metuh is Igbo from the same town as the Biafran leader, Ikemba Emeka Ojukwu.
Conscience is an open wound. Only truth can heal it. Do you seek the truth?

Remembering Biafra

George Washington University's “Remembering Biafra” conference will bring together scholars, activists, and humanitarians to examine the global impact of the Nigeria-Biafra War of 1967-70. Speakers will analyze the war in terms of its impact on US-Africa relations, its influence on the modern politics of humanitarianism, and the legacies of decolonization. With the 50th anniversary of the start of the war in June 2017, the conference will explore why this major African crisis has been so long forgotten, and what lessons might be learned from remembering Biafra today.

OFFICIAL COMMUNIQUE RELEASED AT THE END OF THE WORLD IGBO SUMMIT HELD AT GREGORY UNIVERSITY UTURU ABIA STATE BETWEEN 27TH - 30TH OCTOBER, 2016

My dear Igbo greats, following the completion of the 4-day Igbo Summit held at the Gregory University Uturu, Abia State, to herald the 50-year Visioning programme for the Igbo nation, I hereby present to you the official communique agreed and presented at the end of the Summit. This is the official and authentic version of the communique. Kindly disregard any previous communique as they were released without full authorization:

COMMUNIQUE OF THE WORLD IGBO SUMMIT HELD AT THE GREGORY UNIVERSITY UTURU ABIA STATE FROM 27TH – 30TH OCTOBER, 2016.

The World Igbo Summit took place at the Gregory University Uturu, Abia State, from 27th – 30th October, 2016. The Summit was organized to bring together the great minds of Ala-igbo from across the globe to dialogue and give for Igbo nation a strategic roadmap for growth and development going forward. The Summit heralded the 50-year Visioning Project initiated to strategize, document and design a roadmap for the sustainable development of Igbo nation to catalyze wealth repatriation and reinvestment in Igbo homeland by all Igbo sons and daughters in all parts of the world.

The theme of the World Igbo Summit is: Igboka – Visioning the Igbo Nation in 2066. The theme epitomizes Ndiigbo as a supreme race, a unique people, an autochthonous race and a great people of destiny whom God imbued with the manifest destiny of becoming the pride of the black race through her ingenuity, industry, dispersion, resourcefulness, creativity, hard work, honesty, perseverance and fear of God.

The meeting was co-chaired by General (Sen) Ike Nwachukwu, His Excellency Dr Chukwuemeka Ezeife, Chief (Col.) Joe Achuzia, Chief Francis Oji and Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu. The well attended Summit has in attendance great leaders of Igbo extractions from the East and West of Igboland including His Royal Majesty Igwe Alfred Nnaemeka Achebe (Obi of Onitsha), Eze Eberechi Dick (Chairman South East Council of Traditional Rulers), Prof, Joe Irukwu, Prof George Obiozor, Prof Ihechukwu Madubuike, Igwe Prof Chukwuemeka Ike, Mazi Sam Ohuabunwa, Prof Epiphany Azinge, Prof Pat Utomi, Igwe Engr S.O Okafor, Dr Greg Ibe, Iyom Josephine Anenih, Chief Simon Nsobundu Okeke, Dr Ifedi Okwenna, Prof Maurice Iwu and so many other Igbo great intellectuals, professionals, businessmen, Civil society activists, gender advocates and other experts of Igbo extraction residing in different parts of the world. The Anambra State Governor Chief Willie Obiano was represented by the Deputy Governor, Dr Nkem Okeke. The Governor commended the World Igbo Summit Group and the Igbo Renaissance Centre of Gregory University Uturu for coming out with a commendable 50-years visioning project.

After a three day deliberation, the Summit resolves as follows:
Ndiigbo have made the biggest sacrifice and contributions to the building of the modern Nigeria and insist that henceforth will work for a Nation where the Igbo are allowed to live and operate as equal citizens without any discrimination, bias or intimidation.

Ndiigbo Insist that the 1999 Constitution should be repealed and a new one enacted that will recognize the inalienable right of each constituent group to self-determination and Regional autonomy as enshrined in the 1960 Independence Constitution and 1963 Republican Constitution.
We call for the implementation of the recommendations of the 2014 National Conference report as doing so will enhance the unity, peace and stability of the country.

Ndiigbo hereby resolve to take full responsibility for the rebuilding of the Igbo economy and development of Ala-Igbo and hereby shall adopt the digital economy as the organizing paradigm and implementation framework for the sustainable development of Alaigbo.

That in line with the recent resolution of the Southern Nigerian Peoples Assembly, the National Assembly and State Assemblies should legislate the prohibition of nomadic grazing by herdsmen and the establishment of grazing reserves and ranches with public funds. We therefore call on the National Assembly to oppose the grazing bill in both chambers.
That in view of the threat by the Fulani herdsmen which constitute present and imminent danger to peace and security in Igboland, the Summit called on the Igbo Governors and the States Assemblies to immediately legislate against any form of open grazing in Igbo land.

That the Biafran spirit is the Igbo spirit of enterprise, hard work and excellence that seeks for justice, equity, and fairness for all. The current agitations therefore is a cry for justice for Ndiigbo. Thus the Biafran agitation is not a threat to national security. We therefore urge the Federal Government to release Nnamdi Kanu and all other prisoners of conscience in line with the rule of law.

The South East Governors should establish a Joint Commission for development of Ala-Igbo and be supportive of good Igbo initiatives.
It was further resolved that henceforth Igbo Political leadership (elected and appointed) must act in the best interest of Ndiigbo and be prepared to be held accountable by the people for all their actions and inactions.

We restate that the principles of Igbo Social Justice – Akulueuno, Eziokwubundu, Onyeaghana-nwaneya, Igwebuike, Ezi-afaka-ego, Egbe-bere-ugo-bere, Akon’uche, nwanyi-bu-ife, ntorobia bu-Ike Obodo would be fully applied in our interactions among Ndiigbo and our neighbours.

The Summit resolved to recognize the contributions of the NdiIgbo in the DIASPORA-Africa, Europe, the Americas, Asia etc. to the achievement of our vision and committed to sharing their aspirations and challenges and we encourage them to think home and invest home.

The Summit expresses their appreciation to the Chancellor and Management of Gregory University Uturu for being a wonderful host and for their commitment to the reengineering of Igbo growth and development through her Igbo Renaissance Center.

Nature vs Nurture: Black immigrants and African Americans

Emeka Maduewesi

There was something intrinsically devilish about the type of slavery practiced in the United States that created the culture of “that talk” on how to handle interactions with law enforcement, which parent have with their boys. One could argue that America’s brand of slavery was genocide and African Americans are genocide survivors. Strong words, but close to the truth.

Racial Tension: How do you respond to institutional injustice?

By Emeka Maduewesi

"The question remains, how do you respond to institutionalized racial bias that seems to have infected even Lady Justice? Do you engage your oppressors in a shooting war or do you search for a legal means to cure a festering sore? Do you dig deep into the roots to properly identify and treat the problem or do you fix it on the surface with Band Aid?"

Diversity: Women, Black men and the real elephant in the room

One may argue that Corporate America has shown genuine intentions in having more women and Black male work in their companies. But they have been acting exactly like the anti-abortion activists, those pro-lifers, who uphold capital punishment for adults, who kill doctors and mothers, because they want to save the unborn baby. To make my point clearer, what has corporate America done with all the adult Black men that litter the unemployment landscape? Why focus on kids who, on joining those companies, will eventually end up like Goldfish in warm water when they look around and see no one who looks like them? Nigeria Referendum Now

No human can stop an idea whose time has come.

A blacksmith that does not know how to mold an iron gong should look at the kite's tail.

When showing a child a toad in the midst of stones, make sure to point out the toad becauase toads and stones look alike.

A wise male owl does not engage in public display of affection with the wife when female owls dance in the village square to avoid mistaken identity.

The time has come for us to move Nigeria Reverendum Now forward. This is essentially a referendum about the Igbo nation, Biafra and the Niger Delta remaining in Nigeria. Other ethnic nationalities are free to participate.

However, it is very important that issues surrounding the decision to LEAVE or STAY be adequately explained to the people so a few do not carry along the majority in a decision which will be regretted later.

We intend to do mass education and enlightenment through:

1. Production and distriubtion of appropriate literature online and offline.

2. Production and distribution of appropriate videos online and offline.

3. Local and international conferences and seminars.

4. Diplomatic shuttles to learn from those who have gone through the process.

We want to have an honest discussion about the future of Nigeria for our people to an make informed decision.

Stereotyping: Race, ethnicity and the burdens of nationality

The firm had organised a reception for first year associates at San Francisco Westin Hotel. The event was attended by partners and associates from our various offices. I was the only new Black associate. As we were picking up our name tags from the table, a new associate from another office asked me to help him find his. “Your name?” I asked. “Eric Doe.” He replied. Herdsmen Invasion: Tag, Truck and Ranch Cows

Tagging is the way. It is cheap and easy. Those who think otherwise are like David Mark saying that telephone is not for the poor. Tagging controls movement and transfer. Tagging does not exclude ranching.

Ranching is for confinement. Tagging ensures that cows are trucked from ranch to ranch, and not trekked along bushes, farms and villages.

Every South East state MUST pass legislation outlawing movement of cows except by trucks. Some South East capitals - Enugu, Awka, Umuahia and Abakiliki already have "cow places" that needs to be better organized. We do not need Federal Grazing Routes Bill.

In Summary:
1. The only permissible means of moving a cows from one location to another is by trucks.
2. Any cow found on the road, farm or bush with tags MUST be seized, and the owner fined three times the market value of the cow.
3. Any cow found in any South East State without the appropriate tag (GPS or RFID) MUST be destroyed as unfit for human consumption.
4. The current "cow places" locations in Awka, Umuahia and Abakiliki should be better organized to meet up to RANCH standards.

BUSINESS OPPORTUNITIES
1. Tagging technology;
2. Transportation;
3. Ranching;
4. Grass/Forages (Cow pasture) like the one that want to import from Brazil.

Data on my mind

How can you improve on what you cannot measure?

How can you legislate on any matter with no supporting data?

How do you feed your household when you do not know their number?

How do you trace the owner of that vehicle whose address is Ahiara Mbaise, Imo State?

How are you sure NNPC loaded 250 trucks of PMS daily for Abuja? How are you sure 230 girls were kidnapped from Chibok?
How many girls sat for Physics in that school the three preceding years?

Data. Data Data. Data on my mind.

Nigerians should sit down and work. Nigerians should create factual and verifiable data and stop throwing numbers around!

Absence of data is presence of corruption.

Study: Minority Job Seekers Who "Whiten" Resumes More Likely to Get Interview

(WZTV) -- A new study says disclosing minority status on job applications hurts your chance of getting a job interview, even when applying with companies that mention diversity in their job ads.

Professor Sonia Kang of the University of Toronto co-authored the report which sent 1,600 fake resumes to 600 North American companies which advertised job openings. Researchers found applications which had minority racial cues such as a distinctively African American or Asian name received 30-50 percent fewer calls from employers than resumes without such cues.

16.7% of the 1,600 fake resumes were called for interviews. For blacks, they were 2.5 times more likely to get a call if the resume was "whitened." Asians who "whitened" their resume were 1.8 times more likely to get an interview.

The study was launched following interviews with African American and Asian job seekers who provided their feedback on "resume whitening," the process of leaving racial cues off job applications. These applicants were less likely to "whiten" their resumes when responding to an ad for a company stating it valued diversity, but those companies were found to function no differently than companies without a diversity statement in the ad.

It's a phenomenon not unnoticed by minority job seekers. 31% of black interviewees reported they engaged in resume whitening and 40 percent of Asian interviewees admitted the same. Two-thirds of all people interviewed stated they at least knew someone who whitened their resume.
