On April 15,1992, Carol and Johnny were coming back down the coast when they came upon Los Osos, a seaside enclave just down Highway One from the historic Hearst Castle. They were smitten and moved to the town immediately. They visited the Hearst Castle often, picking up landscape ideas for their new home. Here's their first trip, just a few days after robbing a Bank of America in San Jose for $23,200.

Carol loved the San Diego SeaWorld, she said it's much better than the one in San Antonio. While in San Diego that same year, Johnny and Carol robbed $11,800 from a Scripps Ranch bank on November 25, 1986.

On August 23, 1988 Johnny and Carol robbed $16,000 from a Texas Caprock Savings bank in Lubbock, Texas. On the drive back home to San Diego that afternoon they stopped in Lincoln, New Mexico to see among other things, the courthouse where the infamous outlaw and bandit, Billy the Kid, was convicted and set to hang nearly a hundred years earlier.

Carol grew up in a two bedroom, one bath house, five people living there, a cat and a dog. Turtles, rabbits, all that stuff. She got a job out of high school working in the clothing department at Fed-Mart. And that was it. That was life. No driver's license, no boyfriend, living at home. She'd never left Dallas. Didn't think she would. Then, she met John. They got marrried, drank a bottle of rum, and drove the high passes and low flats all the way from Dallas to San Diego. Here she is in the spring of 1988 at the tippy-top of Cumbres Pass, Colorado in between jobs at Sunbelt Savings in Arlinton, Texas and First Interstate Bank of Laguna Beach, California.

Carol and Johnny robbed banks across Texas, California and Washington. But in between what they called "jobs," they enjoyed traveling. Despite robbing at least $250,000 by the time they visited White Sands National Park, Carol still felt nervous about stealing a tiny bit of sand.
