In a recent development that has raised eyebrows and stirred debate within the Christian community, the World Council of Churches (WCC), led by General Secretary Rev. Prof. Jerry Pillay, visited Cuba and commended its religious freedom. This gesture has sparked criticism from religious freedom advocates who argue that the WCC’s visit overlooked the Cuban government’s long-standing violations of religious rights.

The controversy centers around the WCC’s apparent failure to recognize the systematic repression of religious leaders and parishioners by the Cuban government. Critics, including Teo Babun, President and CEO of Outreach Aid to the Americas, express grave concerns that the visit, seemingly orchestrated by the Cuban government, did not accurately reflect the state of religious freedom in Cuba. In fact, it is feared that the Cuban government is using the WCC’s statements celebrating religious freedom in Cuba to bolster its own narrative, which stands in stark contrast to the reported reality on the ground.

Reports from independent faith leaders in Cuba paint a grim picture, with a significant majority indicating regular government repression. The communist regime, through the Office of Religious Affairs, is known to favor religious groups that are compliant while punishing those critical of the government. Human Rights Watch, Amnesty International, and Open Doors have documented widespread repression, including crackdowns on groups like the Ladies in White, who advocate for imprisoned family members.

During his visit, Pillay praised Cuba’s religious expression, citing meetings with the Presbyterian Church in Cuba among others. However, his remarks and the WCC’s stance against the U.S. blockade of Cuba have been viewed by some as being politically motivated rather than focused on the actual state of religious liberty in the country.

This situation brings to the forefront the complexities and challenges of advocating for religious freedom in a global context. It underscores the need for religious organizations and leaders to approach such issues with a nuanced understanding of the local realities and the broader implications of their actions and statements. The Christicle community is called to pray for wisdom and discernment for all involved, and for the true state of religious freedom in Cuba to be recognized and respected

In a tragic series of events, the Christmas season in Nigeria was marred by violence, leading to the loss of nearly 200 lives in the central state of Plateau. This devastating attack targeted Christian villages, laying bare the grim reality of religious persecution and ethnic strife in the region.

The Bishop of the Sokoto Diocese, Matthew Kukah, has vocally called for government intervention, highlighting the despair and dwindling hope among Nigerians, particularly in the face of rampant corruption and inadequate government response. The severity of the situation is further underscored by Amnesty International’s report, which details the widespread impact of the bombings, affecting tens of thousands of people, displacing many, and resulting in significant loss of life and property.

This violence, believed to be instigated by a radicalized Islamic tribe known as the Fulani, stems from deep-seated ethnic and religious tensions between Christian farmers and Fulani herders. The continuous nature of these conflicts and the apparent lack of effective government response over the years have exacerbated the situation, leading to a state of chronic insecurity and fear among the Christian communities.

In the wake of the attacks, the churches have stepped in to fill the void left by the government, providing much-needed assistance and support to the affected. Nigeria’s president-elect, Bola Tinubu, has since ordered a rapid mobilization of relief resources and directed security agencies to apprehend those responsible for these heinous crimes.

This series of attacks in Nigeria, not an isolated incident but part of a broader pattern of religious persecution, highlights the precarious situation of Christians in the Middle Belt of Nigeria. The country has been recognized by the International Christian Concern (ICC) in its annual Persecutors of the Year report, designating it as one of the most dangerous countries for Christians.

As we share this news, it’s not just to inform but to call for prayer, action, and awareness about the plight of our brothers and sisters in Christ in Nigeria. It is a stark reminder of the need for vigilance, solidarity, and proactive measures to ensure the safety and freedom of Christians worldwide. The Christicle community stands in solidarity with the victims and their families, praying for peace, justice, and healing in Nigeria

Bishop Matthew Kukah told Bola Tinubu, the recently elected president of Nigeria, that "neither God nor history will forgive you if you fail" and that "you have no excuses before God or the people of Nigeria."

God is still working

In our moments of doubt and uncertainty, it’s essential to remember that God’s work in our lives is ongoing and unfailing. As Philippians 1:6 says, ‘Being confident of this, that He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.’ This powerful scripture reminds us that our journey is a continuous process, guided by God’s hand.

Each day brings its own challenges, but also opportunities for growth and blessings. Even when the path seems unclear, God is actively shaping our lives, weaving our experiences into a beautiful tapestry of grace and strength.

Let us embrace the truth that God is still working in us, through us, and around us. His plans for us are filled with hope and purpose. In times of waiting or struggle, hold onto the promise that He is not finished with us yet.

As you go through your day, take a moment to reflect on how God has been working in your life. Remember the times He guided you, lifted you, and carried you through difficult moments. Trust that He is still working, even in the quiet, unseen moments.

Word Of Affirmation: You are a work in progress, a masterpiece being painted by the greatest artist. Believe in His plan, trust in His timing, and know that every stroke of His brush is leading you to a beautiful destiny.

God is still working, and His work in you is a testimony of love, strength, and endless possibilities.

Michael Youssef’s Evangelistic Event in Egypt:

An evangelistic event led by Michael Youssef in Cairo, Egypt, witnessed an unexpected turnout of over 17,000 people, significantly surpassing the initial expectation of 6,000 attendees. More than 7,850 individuals put their faith in Christ during this event.

Despite the severe legal restrictions on evangelistic outreach in Egypt, this event marked a notable moment for Christian gatherings in the region.
The event’s success was attributed to a widespread hunger for spiritual nourishment and the Holy Spirit’s presence. Following the event, local churches reported doubled attendance, indicating a lasting impact on the Christian community in Egypt.

The Unchanging Nature of the Gospel Message: Michael Youssef emphasized the importance of the core Gospel message during his evangelistic outreaches. He stressed that the message of sin, redemption, and repentance through Jesus Christ remains constant across different cultural contexts.
This focus on the central tenets of Christianity is crucial for meaningful spiritual engagement and growth among believers worldwide.

Vision for Peace and Unity in the Middle East: Youssef, born in Egypt and having lived in Lebanon, expressed his passion for seeing people in the Middle East embrace Christianity. He believes that true peace in the region is contingent upon the unifying power of the Gospel message.
He also highlighted the significant yet underreported conversions of Muslims to Christianity, driven by personal revelations and visions. This aspect of spiritual awakening in the Middle East plays a critical role in fostering peace and understanding across different religious communities.

Crackdown on Underground Churches in China:

China’s ongoing crackdown on underground churches, particularly those outside the government-sanctioned “Three-Self Patriotic Movement,” has intensified. Religious freedom in China, especially for Christians, has been in a downward spiral, with increased surveillance, arrests, and pressure on unregistered house churches.

The Chinese government’s actions include raids on services, disrupting online worship, and imposing severe surveillance measures, such as the installation of CCTVs with facial recognition in churches. Read more

Gratitude For Gods Strength: Holy Spirit Minute Episode 24.

Welcome back to Holy Spirit Minute! I’m Kofi Thompson, and today we talk about gratitude for God’s strength. How can we express thankfulness for His empowering presence?

Scripture of the Day: is Isaiah 41:10 (NIV): So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.

In this verse, we’re reminded of God’s promise to strengthen and support us. Let’s explore how gratitude for His strength can inspire confidence in our lives.

Song of the Day: EAGLE WINGS.
Even youth will grow tired and weary
And young men will stumble and fall
But those who hope in the Lord
Will renew their strength
They will soar on wings like the eagles
Will ran and not grow weary
those who hope in the Lord
Will renew their strength
They will soar on wings like the eagles
Will ran and not grow weary

Today, let’s look into the empowering strength of God. When we express gratitude for His presence that strengthens us, we discover courage in the face of challenges. Remember that a thankful heart leads to a life empowered by His strength.

Admonition Scripture:
From Philippians 4:13 (NIV):
“I can do all this through Him who gives me strength.

Episode 23: Gratitude for God’s Peace

today we discuss gratitude for God’s peace. How can we express thankfulness for His calming presence?

Philippians 4:6-7 (NIV):
Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

In these verses, we’re reminded of the peace that comes from trusting God in prayer. Let’s explore how gratitude for His peace can bring serenity to our lives.

Song of the Day:
You are unchangeable
Unparalleled
Non compares to Your
Matchless Love
You’re mighty to save
Mighty to save
Our God is mighty
Mighty to save

Sermon:
Today, let’s look into the profound peace that God offers. When we express gratitude for His calming presence in our lives, we find rest for our souls. Remember that a thankful heart leads to a life anchored in His peace.

Admonition Scripture:
From John 14:27 (NIV), the words of Jesus:
Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.
