Sitting here at my desk this evening catching up on email and text messages following a livestream (robertwitham.tv) when suddenly a huge raven swept down and then back up into the air again just yards outside my window!
Join me this evening at 5pm Pacific/8pm Eastern for another Tuesday evening live chat! This week we will be talking about hiding in plain sight, frugal van/RV life, and much more. Bring your questions or topic suggestions about the nomadic lifestyle so that we can discuss those as well!

The weather is lovely down here in the valley. It looks a bit colder on the mountain peaks at nearly 12,000 feet!
Being sick (or injured) while traveling is never fun. In this podcast episode I share 10 tips to survive being sick on the road with an emphasis on off-grid travelers.

Can you see the van hiding behind a Mojave Yucca? Hard to complain about these views if one must sit still more than usual :)
Tuesday evening a 5pm Pacific/8pm Eastern will be my next live video chat on YouTube. What topics would you like to see me discuss this week? Don't forget to bring some questions for the live chat as well! Join me at robertwitham.tv.
Here's a video my friend, Curtis, made about a recent 4x4 trip in the Mojave Desert here in southern Nevada not far from where I am camped. Thought you all might enjoy seeing some of the views.

The desert is not all sun, sand, and rocks. Sometime it is cloudy, sometimes it rains, and sometimes it is surprisingly cool and damp.

How is "it's complicated" an option for a federal tax return? LOL This is an actual screenshot from within the Intuit Turbo Tax program. No, I did not click on "it's complicated" to see what mysteries might be hidden behind that virtual door.
My latest video features views from Niagara Falls during our trip back from Upstate NY to Wyoming. Niagara Falls State Park was already partially shut down when this video was recorded, but we were still able to access the viewing areas for the Falls.

The view from my bedroom window (aka, the back door of the van) with Mt. Charleston rising majestically from the Mojave Desert.
This 370' high, 1,500' long fissure in the rock wall is known as Devil's Gate. Located along the Sweetwater River in southern Wyoming, Devil's Gate was a well-known landmark along the historic Oregon Trail. Devil's Gate is believed to have been created by erosion from the Sweetwater River over the course of centuries.
Full moon rising over the Mojave Desert in Nevada this evening. To make it even better, the desert is full of that delicious, delightful after-rain-in-desert scent. The world may be crazy right now, but it sure is beautiful. There are worse places to be self-isolating while waiting out this pandemic.
I'm not in Wyoming! In this live chat video I will share when, why, and how I left Wyoming, my thoughts about social distancing vs. social isolation, and more. Join me and bring your questions about the traveling lifestyle, van life, or anything related to being a nomad. 5pm Pacific/8pm Eastern

People living in vans and RVs are getting squeezed during pandemic
Living full time in a van or RV has become increasingly popular, but that life is now getting tougher as parks close and free campsites shut down.
Solid advice on safe outdoor recreation from the director of Nevada’s Division of Outdoor Recreation during the COVID-19 pandemic. Guidelines vary between states, but for those that do still allow outdoor recreation it is important right now to do so responsibly to avoid exposure to or spreading of this virus.
Are you still taking advantage of outdoor recreation opportunities? I walk at a public park right now whenever I have the opportunity - and it is not too crowded. It is important to maintain good physical and mental health during this pandemic, and safe outdoor recreation is a great way to do that.
Colin Robertson, director of the state's outdoor recreation office, said people who want to spend time outdoors must take measures to prevent the spread of coronavirus during the weeks ahead.
Yes, it is every bit as cold as it looks! The good news is that I have plenty of propane on hand to keep the heat running. The bad news is that the heater cannot keep up when it is just above zero outside and the water lines froze overnight - and remain frozen. At least it is only supposed to last for two nights and then return to a more moderate temperature. Anyone else experiencing a blast of winter in April?
Alright, who ordered this weather? As if being grounded in the wrong state for this time of year was not bad enough, now we have a blast of crazy winter weather. Heavy snow and single digit temps - in April!
Don't buy this heater! At least in my opinion, there are better options than the Mr. Heater Little Buddy for van life or RV life - especially when the temperatures are dropping close to zero at night like right now in Wyoming.
That's not to say that the Mr. Heater Little Buddy is a bad heater, but there are several things that I do not like about it for use in a van. Instead I recommend a couple of other options. However, the Mr. Heater Little Buddy may still be a good option for you if your needs or situation are different than mine.

Well you may not be able to buy regular toilet paper or paper towels, but you sure can stock up on RV toilet paper!
Hosting my first live chat in several months this evening at 5pm Pacific/8pm Eastern. Planned topics include hunkering down, staying safe as a nomad, starting a YT vlog, and more. I will be using new hardware and software for this livestream that I think will improve the experience for all participants. I look forward to seeing you there!

Gee, and here I was enjoying the nice spring weather in Wyoming! Apparently I had better stock up on propane as well as food this week.
I'm planning a live video chat on Tuesday evening at 5pm Pacific/8pm Eastern. It's been a while since I hosted a live chat here on YouTube (robertwitham.tv), but now that many of us are grounded for the duration it seems like a good time to start again. Topics are still to be determined, but let me know if there is something you would like me to cover. Of course, I will be fielding as many questions as possible during the live chat too. I look forward to chatting with you on Tuesday!
We made real maple syrup on a wood boiler while we were home visiting family in Upstate New York recently. Many people think of New York City when New York State is mentioned, but NYC is only a small part of the state geographically. Upstate New York has a vibrant agricultural economy and is famous for its maple syrup, dairy, and wine.
My brother and sister-in-law own a farm in Upstate New York where, amongst other things, they produce maple syrup which allowed up the opportunity to help make real maple syrup on the farm. I hope you enjoy this video!

A few days ago the Canada geese were waddling along on the ice. Now this lake is about half open water. Hooray for spring!
So I thought maybe the operator had passed out or something when I saw this coming at me in the store this evening! Apparently not. LOL Meanwhile, I was at least able to buy a week’s worth of groceries finally. Shelves are still somewhat bare here, but a lot better than they have been over the past week.
Two days ago this lake was completely frozen over and the Canada geese were waddling around on the ice. Today the lake is about half open water. Spring must be on the way!

I receive requests from viewers periodically to make some “day in the life” videos. This makes sense, especially for those considering or new to the nomadic lifestyle, as they wonder what a typical day may look like. In this video I share a day in the life while self-isolating in a van. I hope you enjoy this look behind the scenes at my daily life in a van.

Cattail reed floating on an icy lake in Wyoming.
Canada geese strolling along on frozen Dalbey Lake in Gillette, Wyoming. I wonder whether they are confused about the calendar or coronavirus shutdown refugees!
“Lobby is currently closed temporarily. All orders are to go. Sorry for any inconvenience.” So much for “resting” at the rest area. LOL

Yesterday a group of us set out to explore a couple of the high mountain passes in Colorado. It was an incredible experience. In fact, I shot so much footage that I am making three separate videos that will be published next week starting on Monday, September 11. This short trailer offers a very limited glimpse into some of the incredible things you will see in the videos. I hope you enjoy it!
A few peeks around my camp in Colorado. Arrived here yesterday and enjoying the cooler, mountain weather!
