Here's my story! People often ask me how in the world I maintain my busy performance/teaching schedule in ADDITION to my (very full) work and personal life. Not so long ago, I would have answered: CHOCOLATE!!!!! :)
Seriously, as I have pursued my dreams for the last few years (art, music, dance, event production, peace activism), I have been sustained by a positive attitude, wonderful friends, family support, a healthy diet, and chocolate! Yet, I was ALWAYS drained and TIIIIIRED. I just figured that was inevitable, considering my schedule. So I persevered because I LOVE my life and was not willing to give up anything I do. BUT I was so exhausted, I pretty much fell asleep any time I sat down! (my housemates will vouch for the number of times I fell asleep in my dinner!)
But thanks to my sister, I have discovered something BETTER THAN CHOCOLATE. I kid you not...and my nickname is chocolate, so that tells you how I feel about it. She started an Herbalife Nutritional Program (at her cousin's insistence) and the result was amazing! Her weight, energy and immune system dramatically improved, much to our joy! THEN she tried to get me on Herbalife. Ever the skeptic, I resisted, thinking (like most people) that Herblife was about losing weight. I did not need or want to lose weight (I'm a bellydancer after all, and I like to have a little something to work with!) PLUS, I'm a bit of a health nut (I am pretty educated, get lots of happy bellydance exercise, eat a mixed organic/vegetarian/vegan/raw diet, drink lots of water) and didn't think Herbalife had anything to offer me. I was healthy, right? My sister did not give up on me, especially as she was very concerned I was not eating enough food or gettingenough protein and nutrients. I finally started to try some of the products. I noticed the difference IMMEDIATELY, and finally started on my own nutritional program- which is what Herbalife is really all about- Nutrition! I FEEL AMAZING! I have focused, non-jittery energy (unlike the caffeinated kind), and I look and feel radiant :) And I don't mind saying it! I have noticed better muscle tone, better sleep AND have also lost those last few pesky pounds of unhealthyweight (which I had given up on! and I can still shimmy!)
SO that is how it all began for me. I am still learning and discovering new layers of the vibrant life. Please feel free to ask me questions, post comments and tell friends about this page. Please keep all comments courteous and remotely relevant, or I will delete them. Thanks!
***~a little about me, or "What is my artistic life like?"**
I live to dance and dance to live! And I can't help singing most of the time :) I have always loved singing, dancing and living la Vie Creative, but it was not until college that I fell in love with bellydancing and then BHAM! My artistic life just took off running! After one Middle Eastern Dance class with Angelika Nemeth, an unquenchable fire was ignited and I 'v been dancing up a storm ever since! I studied traditional bellydance with renowned dance artist and instructor Angelika Nemeth, danced in her company danced for several years and I have been blessed to have other phenomenal teachers in various styles of dance and music. I studied voice and choral music with Lori Loftus, Dr. Ricardo Soto, and Robin Frey-Monel, and Tribal/ American Tribal Style bellydance wit hAbby Duvall and Sooz, and have taken various stage, fusion and ethnic dance workshops with some of the greatest American and international teachers (including Sharon Kihara, Rachel Brice, Sashi, Momo Kadous, Meera, Sooz and many others.) I am ALWAYS expanding my abilities, knowledge and repertoire by researching, teaching and performing in a multitude of venues. In addition to instructional and performance videos, I have performed throughout OC and LA and with the Astra Von Berlifitzing Dance Co. and the A.N.D.E and the Jewels that Raq. I also co-produce the "Bands And Bellies" showcase with Alec Marken, and the two of us are in the band Deep Stirrings and have a theatrical drum/dance show called Global Groove. And the amazing DJ/dance artist Onyx (of the Jewels that Raq) has formed a p[rouction collaborative iwht alec and I called Hybrid Revoluytions, which cretaes andartistic events in OC. I enjoy costume design, cooking, baking, reading, learning and I love foreign films and old movies :)
I am a published writer within the bellydance community and have had articles appear in Gothic Beauty and Dark Faery magazine as well. I LOVE building relationships with people and watching them grow in their dance/their art and their lives. I hope people who meet me will catch the same passion for life I have found. I was not always healthy, and I appreciate my good life every day! I will be talking about my health journey in more depth on the wall :)
