The water forms the border between the Indonesian provinces of East Java and Bali. At its narrowest it is 2.4 kilometres wide. The Bali Strait is shallow. Crossing the Bali Strait with the ferry from Ketapang to Gilimanuk is a real experience. Although, you might hear it might be unsafe, my experience was very comfortable and safe. I felt like a local to be honest. Stick to yourself and remain alert at all times when you travel and you’ll be fine. It was not busy for me as it might have been the time of day, overall it was a two thumbs up and highly recommend it.
The ferry gives you a more authentic experience. On the Java side, the departure point is Ketapang. Near the port of Ketapang there is a bus station and train station, which is very convenient. These stations have an extensive range of services to other destinations in Java, such as Probolinggo (Mount Bromo), Yogyakarta, Malang, Bandung and even the capital Jakarta.

Gilimanuk isn’t a major tourist spot, with most visitors heading to Lovina, Ubud, or the beaches in Kuta and Nusa Dua. Bali lacks trains, so you’ll need a bemo (small van) or taxi for travel (negotiate price), and remember to account for the one-hour time difference with Java.

Just had my first taste of Luwak Coffee here in Bali, and let me tell you, it’s an experience unlike any other! 🌿☕️ Not only is it known as one of the rarest and most expensive coffees in the world, but it’s also harvested in a unique way. Luwaks, small mammals native to Indonesia, eat ripe coffee cherries, and the beans are then collected from their droppings. Sounds unusual, right? But the result is a smooth, flavorful brew that’s definitely worth trying at least once! 💫 However, it’s essential to consider the ethical and environmental implications of Luwak coffee production, as some farms may not prioritize animal welfare. So, while indulging in this luxurious coffee, let’s also advocate for sustainable practices and fair treatment of all involved. 👨🏼🌾Make sure to taste @coffeeluwaktanahlot when you’re visiting Tanah Lot Temple, Bali! 🌴 It’s not cheap, as aforementioned but worth the experience! ✔️ It cost 50,000 IDR = $4.30 CAD for a cup. ‼️ The animal is called a Civet Cat, in case you’re curious. Let’s ride into the unknown! All was taken care of by mid-afternoon on my first day. I paid 2,000 IDR (<25 cents CAD) to park my scooter at the temple.

Do make sure you have a valid (motorcycle) driver’s license and highly recommend you to travel with an international license (that shows you can operate a motorcycle on it) before arriving, it will save you lots, if you happened to get pulled over, or else it’s technically illegal, so don’t drive one without it. 🪪 Although, you can still rent one, the authorities will not like it and you might have to “pull some strings.”

Monkey Business! 🐵 My walk through Tasek Lama Recreational Park turned out to be amusing and interesting at the same time. The unexpected happened as I was waiting for my driver to pick me up. Lo and behold, I spotted some Macaque Monkeys right at the entrance of the park.

Epic Travel Fail! 🛂 So here’s a brief rundown, I stayed at @belmont_manila which is a several minutes walk from the @miaagovph conveniently in an excellent location. Although my intention was great, it all went south real quick! 🤦♂️

I woke up early, organized a breakfast to be brought to my room and supposedly did everything right, however one problem. I had difficulty finding the desk to check-in and I waited at the back of the queue. That’s where I went wrong first, I assumed that they were going to call everyone up but the thing is that the airline already had announced the last call to check-in, (and were checking in others for different flights) which I didn’t even hear as you all know airports can be super noisy. In case you’re wondering I was supposed to fly with @flyairasia (I’m not saying that it’s their responsibility, however they didn’t seem to want to help me, as I was literally 5 minutes in the queue waiting and finally went to the front desk and they said I should’ve come up earlier!) 🤷♂️

Long story short, I had to find a flight out same day to Brunei, as I wasn’t allowed to stay more than 30 days as I had no visa, so I had to leave before sunset same day. I rebooked a flight out hours later with @royalbruneiair and they came through, apparently the last seat on that flight!

Moral of the story, GO TO THE AIRPORT EARLY!!! This was the first time ever that I missed a flight and it actually made me really upset, however I sat down and realized that it was all my fault. When you think all is good, don’t let your guard down. Make sure you’re on top of your flight details and travel itineraries. Yes, I accepted my fault, moved forward to buy a new ticket, which was a $280 CAD mistake, however it all worked out in the end. I just learned to chill, breathe and enjoy the moment. And… don’t take everything for granted, even though the airport is right across the literal highway or not, be aware an
New Friends from the Philippines! 🇵🇭 As I’ve travelled to over 46 countries around the world, I am not only grateful to have experienced the places, but it it’s always the people that make the place. Nevertheless, a destination could be jaw dropping gorgeous, yet if there is crappy people around, it gets boring or really scary quite fast. 👧🏻👦🏻 It’s always nice to meet lovely people to share your life and experiences with on your travels, and that’s what I did my last night here in Coron. I met these funny and awesome friends and we had a blast chatting for sometime. Whether it’s talking about each other or something random, it’s always great to meet new people and make new friends around the world. 🗺️

Tour B Coron Update: 🏖️ All the tours in Palawan are equally beautiful in their own right. Here I provide you with an update in my own perspective, of how I feel about tours in El Nido vs Coron. Overall, they do offer similar activities, and it might look the same in many places, BUT the people that you go on the tours with make it that much better. There is scuba and snorkelling in both spots which is really an amazing experience. However, it all depends on what you personally like and what you want to experience on every tour. That being said, enjoy them ALL and soak it up as much as possible, because everyday is not a vacation day! 🏝️

1. While in El Nido, make sure to locate the @montenegroshipping ticket office located near the port authority within the first day upon arrival, to book a spot, especially to ensure availability 🎟️
2. Speak with the clerk and find out what the schedule is and tell them the day you’d like to travel to Coron 👨🏻💼
3. Make sure you have cash with you to make the transaction and book your ticket with the clerk (currently, it costs 2,816₽ one-way) cash is always easier to use, although you can book online with www.bookaway.com. I highly suggest you book when you’re physically there, as you will have a better idea of your itinerary and weather conditions 💰
4. Wake up early, packed and ready to go and do not miss your arrival time, which is an hour before embarkation 🛏️
5. Bring 20₽ cash for the terminal fee, which you need when you arrive to the port 🤑
6. Be patient as the process is a bit lengthy, however it is like this travelling throughout Asia, if not now you know ⏳
7. When boarding find a comfortable seat, as it is a long five hours on the sea 💺 (there is A/C onboard)

Nightlife in El Nido! 🕺💃 Head to @district.elnido to have a fun night out with friends or even to make some new friends. The vibes are fire. 🔥 They hire live bands which play throughout the week. The night we were there @mikeandthewolf.music were performing. You can hear for yourself how good these dudes are, they got rhythm and rhymes. Great singers and talent all around with their instruments. Check them out on their socials.

Where to Eat dinner in El Nido? 🦐 Angel Wish Seafood is the spot! 🐙🦞🐟 My friend @teardrops_06 and I decided to eat here because it was the most affordable seafood restaurant we found in town. We were both craving seafood and fresh seafood is all we wanted, so we set off. We ordered shrimp sinigang, yellow snapper and mussels with a side of rice for each of us. To be honest, I cannot remember the price, but we walked out content with full stomachs.

They’re a traditional Filipino restaurant right at the seaside and they only accept cash. But overall, it’s a spot you don’t want to miss in El Nido.
