Figuring out on how to get the media to cover your event can be really frustrating 😣 But don’t worry. I got you!
FIRST…. FOLLOW me to get all my media tips that can help you just like they helped B. Sherrie get media coverage for her amazing event.
As you’re planning your event, here are some things to consider to make it more likely to get media coverage.
🔐 Timeliness: Is your event related to a topic that’s hot in the news right now? Is your event connected with an anniversary, holiday, or other event that journalists will be interested in?
🔐 Visuals and audio: What can news camera or photographer expect to see at your event? What will make your event visually appealing and grab a reporters attention? What special guests will be there?
🔐 Scheduling: Will it be easy for media to make it? Typically, reporters work dayside (9-6) and nightlight (2-11) shifts and gathering elements at the beginning of their shift to right a story for the evening news or on a 5pm deadline for print.
🔐 Avoid competition: Is your event competing with any big local events or elections that will likely dominate coverage? If so, balance your expectations and aim to get coverage in advance of the event to help promote and attract people.

I’ve always been good at writing everyone else’s stories, but what was my story? What did I have to say? I questioned if I had anything meaningful to share and wondered if people would even care.
Here’s a look at what the process was like and what it took to get Leverage YOU published. What I’ve learned is no matter how much of an expert you are at one thing there are still some things that will challenge you, make you feel uncomfortable and take you out of your comfort zone.
But if being a mom to my beautiful boy has taught me anything, it’s to constantly explore and learn new things. So let this encourage you to do the same.
