BMW South AFrica unveiled the new X3 that will be locally built.
This is the top M50 variant, it is powered by a 3.0L 6-cylinder B58 engine that is now enhanced with a 48v mild-hybrid system. It delivers 293 kW and 580 Nm of torque.
0-100 km/h in 4.6 seconds.

The coupe SUV segment is taking over and it is here to stay. BMW SA showcased its new impressive X2 joining its rivals, Audi Q3 Sportback, Mercedes GLC Coupe and Alfa Romeo Tonale. Its direvatives are X2 sdrive, 1.8i msport and the flagship X2 M35i xdrive. The pricing is from R740 000 to R 1.2 million.

Toyota SA confirms that the GR Corolla will be heading our shores. It will sold in a very limited numbers. The GR Corolla, boost with G16E-GTS 1.6-litre three-cylinder turbocharged engine has been further enhanced to suit the larger hatch, with a 12% increase in power to 221kW. Mated exclusively to an intelligent six-speed manual transmission, the GR Corolla employs the GR-Four all-wheel-drive system developed through Toyota’s involvement in the World Rally Championship.

The pricing,model lineup, is yet to be confirmed by Toyota SA.

It is not every day one see a launch of Alfa but South Africans were treated to a launch of Alfa's new cross over, Tonale. It comes in an already highly contested arena with brands like BMW X1, Range Rover Evoque, Mercedes GLB, Volvo CX 40 and VW T-Roc to mention few. a 1.5-litre 4-cylinder turbopetrol engine combined with a hybrid battery and -motor. The mild-hybrid component assists the petrol engine at slow speeds, which benefits fuel economy – especially if you’re driving in congested city traffic. Out on the open road, it provides up to 15 kW/55 Nm of boost at full acceleration to help you execute swift overtaking manoeuvres. Alfa Romeo claims an ambitious average consumption figure of 5.7 L/100 km. The pricing starts from R739 000 to R 819 000.

South Africa has recently seen the fresh-faced Ford Everest gracing our markets. Ford has confirmed noticing of high demand in other countries and is expected to be the same with SA and Ford Africa is expecting that this Everest will live up to its expectations. It was confirmed that there are supply chain challenges due to Covid 19 which prolonged the arrival of the Everest for sales, however the company is working tirelessly to ensure the vehicles reach our dealers across the country.

Jeep Gladiator is here to stay. It is one of the alluring double cabs in the country. The Gladiator is obviously showing the jeep design language. The Gladiator’s interior is chocked full of modern comforts to ease you through those long and bumpy roads. The Gladiator’s design is its body-on-frame design which allows for unrivaled versatility and flexibility. It’s 787 mm longer with a 493 mm longer wheelbase than the 4-door Jeep Wrangler. It does come with a maintenance plan of 3 years/100 000km and a warranty plan covering 5 years/100 000km. The R1.2 million price tag puts a damper on things.

BMW M celebrates 50 years since the division has delivered powerful and cherished m cars. The 50th anniversary, BMW M has announced that it will be developing limited-edition models of the BMW M3 and M4. These limited edition units will be known as the M 50 Jahre Editions. BMW seeks to provide unique configurations of one of its most esteemed model offerings. The high-revving in-line six powerplant produces 375 kW and 650 N.m. The special edition models will also come in a variety of drivetrain configurations which are dependent on the model variant. The options range from a six-speed manual to an eight-speed M Steptronic transmission with the Drivelogic system.

Isuzu SA unveiled its latest Isuzu double cab bakkei D-max that will go head to head with the likes of Toyota Hilux and Ford Ranger in a highly contested market. This locally built bakkie forms part of the KB family which has been successfully in South Africa. Underneath the chiselled bonnet is a 140 kW 450 N.m version of Isuzu’s 3,0-litre turbodiesel, it’s a proven unit and here it’s been tweaked for added refinement and is mated to an Aisin-sourced 6-speed automatic transmission which slushes between the gears smoothly. Out on the open road the motor feels relaxed and with maximum torque available from as low as 1 600 r/min it makes for effortless progress at the national speed limit.

All new Mercedes Benz C Class has been launched in South Africa. The all-new sedan has inherited much from the flagship S-Class, including its exterior design and sumptuous interior, and is manufactured in the Mercedes-Benz East London plant. The entry-level C200 is powered by a 1.5l four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine with outputs of 150kW and 300Nm, powering the rear wheels via a 9G-Tronic automatic transmission. The C200 will cover the 0-100km/h sprint in a claimed 7.3 seconds and top out at 246km/h, while fuel consumption is quoted at 6.6l/100km.

The new C-Class is now available to order from Mercedes-Benz dealerships across the country.

Facelifted VW Polo has arrived in South Africa and sales are already underway. The cabin, buttons and knobs have been replaced with sliders and touch surfaces on higher spec models and a new multifunction steering wheel features, too. The infotainment system has received a refresh, too, and is now optionally available with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The Polo GTI arrives at the same time as the rest of the range, sporting a 147 kW and 320 Nm 2,0-litre turbocharged 4-cylinder motor. Claimed performance is a 0-100km/h time of 6,7 seconds, the fastest in the Polo range and thanks to its more sporty focused demeanour, will definitely be the most engaging Polo to drive. The pricing:

Meet the Peugeot Landtreck that was recently lauched in South Africa. SA is known for bakkie appetite and Landtreck is up against tough competition and well established brands. Peugeot is offering the Landtrek in two models: Allure 4×2 and 4Action 4×4. Both are powered by a 1.9-litre 4-cylinder turbodiesel engine that produces 110 kW and 350 Nm and is combined with a 6-speed automatic transmission. So far, the newcomer is on trend with the market’s preferences. Peugeot’s claim of 8.9 L/100 km (4×2) and 9.1 L/100 km.
The bakkie offering from Peugeot is sold with a 5-year/100 000 km warranty, and a 5-year/100 000 km service plan.

New Truimph is claiming that the new Speed Triple 1200RR is focused on road biking and be epic on track. The electronics comprise five riding modes, including Track and a rider-customisable setting, while the ABS and Traction Control are adjustable and lean-sensitive. The mechanics remains the same offering 180 hp and 125 Nm, driving through a six-speed gearbox and slip assist clutch, operated by an up/down quick shifter, the suspension has been completely updated.

Toyota shows off its rally inspired Yaris GR with more power compared to the normal Yaris. This one comes with 4-wheel drive system offering 3 drive modes. Under the bonnet it has 1.6-litre 3-cylinder turbopetrol which delivers 198 kW and 360 Nm. The vehicle is said to sprint to 100 kph in just 5.5 seconds and it will run to a top speed of 230 kph.

The new GR Yaris is sold with a 9 Services / 90 000 km plan, 12 months / 10 000 km service intervals, and a 3 years / 100 000 km warranty. At a price of R606 606 to R715 000, its rather expensive.

VW Polo unveils a facelifted polo which will come on R-line and and standard versions. The facelift shows off with the updated frond and rear notable changes. Another option made available for the Volkswagen Polo facelift is the Travel Assist option which will feature adaptive cruise control and lane-keep assist. The cabin has also been fitted with its latest 6,5-inch touchscreen infotainment system as standard. The 8,0-inch digital instrument cluster has been included into the basic equipment offering as well. Additional standard features include 15-inch alloy wheels, a centre armrest, additional USB-C port, electric windows all around, electrically adjustable and heated door mirrors and leather trims for the steering wheel and gear shifter.Engine options remain the same with the turbocharged 1,0-litre three-cylinder offered in a 70 kW and 85 kW state-of-tune with a five-speed manual or seven-speed dual-clutch transmission.The SA introduction for the Volkswagen Polo facelift is yet to be confirmed.

Mercedes-Benz reveals the new C-Class sedan.So, only four-cylinder units will be offered, in both petrol and diesel flavours and available exclusively with the brand’s 9G-Tronic automatic transmission. The turbocharged 1,5-litre petrol unit generates 125 kW in the C180 and 150 kW in the C200, each with an additional 15 kW “boost” from the electrified gubbins. As a reminder, Mercedes-Benz South Africa will again produce the sedan at its factory in East London.

South Africa gets a new Opel Corsa offered in just one derivetive. The new Corsa is priced from R289 900. The engine is powered by a naturally aspirated 1,2-litre, three-cylinder petrol engine pushing
55kW (at 5 750 r/min) and 118 N.m (from 2 750 r/min) to the front wheels via a five-speed manual gearbox. Opel claims a combined fuel economy figure of 5,8 L/100 km. Safety features, meanwhile, include ABS, electronic stability control, hill-start assist, six airbags, Isofix child-seat anchors and seatbelt reminders. A three-year/45 000 km service plan (with 15 000 km intervals) and a three-year/120 000 km warranty are included in the price.

South Africa is set to welcome the new Magnite small crossover that is due in first or second quarter of 2021.

The Magnite will be offered locally with a turbocharged 1,0-litre, three-cylinder petrol engine driving the front wheels via either a five-speed manual gearbox or the continuously variable transmission (CVT). It is expecte to push 74 kW at 5 000 r/min.

The manual variant sips unleaded petrol from its 40-litre at a claimed 5,0 L/100 km, while the CVT is interestingly a mite less efficient at a claimed 5,6 L/100 km.

Toyota SA's cheapest car is here. As pointed out in pricing, the local range comprises four variants, each bearing the same trim level. The manual Agya starts at R178 600, with the price rising to R182 400 should you specify Toyota’s audio system. The automatic version, meanwhile, kicks off at R192 500, increasing to R196 300 with the aforementioned audio system fitted.

Toyota shows off new Starlet that replaces the favorable Etios. The pricing for this starts at R204 900. A three-year/100 000 km warranty is included, along with a three-service/45 000 km service plan (with intervals of 15 000 km).

Toyota’s Starlet badge, of course, dates back to 1973 when the original was introduced. The fifth and final generation went out of production in 1999. Interestingly, the Starlet Glanza offered in Japan was billed as the “sports version” of this final generation.

Isuzu Motors South Africa finally gives bakkie lovers its flagship 3,0-litre turbodiesel engine. This is priced at R551 100, the D-Max 3,0 TD X-Rider 4x2 AT interestingly slots in below the standard 3,0 AT LX variant (which is priced from R592 800) and commands a R66 900 premium over the 2,5-litre X-Rider 4x2 AT. Its engine pushes 130 kW turbodiesel unit, which generates peak twisting force of 380 N.m between 1 800 and 2 800 r/min. A six-speed automatic transmission drives the rear wheels.

VW recently announced the face-lift of the Volkswagen Tiguan and a sharper looking Tiguan R which will cater for customers that value performance. The Volkswagen Tiguan R is powered by a potent 2-litre turbocharged engine, managing to boost 235 kW and 420 Nm from its 4-cylinder setup. Those outputs are channelled to all four wheels, via VW’s renowned DSG dual-clutch transmission. For VW to upgrade the new Tiguan to an R-specification which includes the raucous Slovenian-sourced Akrapovic performance exhaust, is a sure indication of its importance to the brand. Tiguan R is expected to arrive in SA towards the end of 2021.

Toyota showoff a face-lifted bakkie that comes with a little bit of power. The suspension upgrades include revised shock-absorber tuning, new bushings and an “improved” leaf-spring design. Toyota says the result is a “more comfortable ride, particularly over rough roads and with low loads”. One of the noticeable change is the adoption of a large trapezoidal grille incorporating more pronounced horizontal elements (interestingly, the grille surrounds differ by grade). There are also newly designed, smaller headlamps, while the taillamps have been revised, too. Expect fresh wheel designs as well.

VW introduce the VW GTI TCR which is set to hit South Africa in July 2020. This follows after this was showcased at 2019 Festival of Motoring. The 2,0-litre four-cylinder is tuned to deliver 213 kW and 370 N.m (up from the standard Golf 7 GTI’s 169 kW and 350 N.m). In South Africa, the GTI TCR will be offered in three colours (Pure White, Pure Grey and Tornado Red), with standard features including a panoramic sunroof, dynamic chassis control, park assist, active info display and We Connect Go.VW SA says the TCR-badged model will be priced at R669 000.

Alfa announces the return of GTA badge . There is even good news to SA for those wanting to buy one in SA. FCA South Africa is still awaiting to get allocation for SA for official sale for 2021. The Alfa Romeo Giulia GTA is 100kg lighter than the Giulia Quadrifoglio that it’s based on, and it uses a more powerful version of its 2.9-litre twin-turbo V6 engine, which has been beefed up to the tune of 403kW (versus the QV’s 380kW). The estimated price is R1.4 million
