The modern Thanksgiving holiday is based on a festival shared by the pilgrims and the Wampanoag Native American tribe at Plymouth Colony, Massachusetts, in 1621. The feast purportedly celebrated the colonists’ first successful harvest in the New World. While modern Thanksgiving always lands on the fourth Thursday in November, the original went down sometime in autumn, closer to harvest time.
Abraham Lincoln was the first to bring back Thanksgiving in 1863, when a woman named Sarah Josepha Hale convinced him that a nationally celebrated Thanksgiving holiday would unite the country in the aftermath of the Civil War. From then on, Thanksgiving was celebrated annually, typically on the last Thursday in November. Still, the date wasn’t made official until decreed by Congress in 1941.

Our Thanksgiving meal may have changed from the first gathering, however, the holiday still brings people together, giving thanks and sharing.

Enjoy your Thanksgiving!

Publisher at Kid's Directory sharing what's for dinner-

Mom, maid to all, cook, and baker typically has me grasping and making the same simple meals each week.

Sunday is special for us, though, with the ability to spend a little more time together. So I try to create something for dinner that is a little "more" than tacos, plus enough to eat Monday night.

Shrimp and Cheese Grits is our dinner tonight, and yes, kids love it!

Not only that, it's a healthy protein and carb-packed easy recipe with simple ingredients that gets my family at least two at-home dinners.

To keep it healthier, I use these brown rice grits grown and made here in ARKANSAS by the .

My go-to seasoning is one of many crafted in downtown Little Rock by .

Just follow the grit recipe and add cheddar cheese shreds (you can use soy-based cheese, too). I add a little hymalian salt and seasoning.
I use olive oil to saute the shrimp with the seasoning.
If kids are new to grits, explain the texture is like mashed potatoes. That usually gets them started 😉
To keep costs down, I buy the shrimp on sale and use the large to ex-large size.

Hope you try it and let me know what you think!!!

It's here! The Holiday Edition is out and ready to be picked up or viewed online. Enjoy options for shopping locally, places to go, and things to do with the kids.

Knowing the gift-giving season is upon us and technology is one of the top gifts for kids, we did a deep dive into some concerns about technology in their kids' lives, including cyberbullying and online predators.

Also, speaking of holiday time, we rounded up some great ideas and options to entertain family and friends, making memories for everyone.

While researching top parent concerns, we stumbled across "Most Popular Parenting Questions"—data from Google (of course 😉) per state.

Curious minds wanted to know what Arkansas parents mostly searched, which was -
"How to get a toddler to stay in bed." 🤔

For kicks, California parents want to know - "Why are kids so loud??" Louisiana backs that up by asking, "Why won't my kids be quiet?"

Of course, more serious questions were shared, like "When should I allow my child to have a cell phone or iPad, or, How much screen time is too much for kids?"...

And yes, there are even age-old questions like, "Why do kids eat boogers?" (we see you, Washington)

Google doesn't have to tell me, though, that parents must realize our questions are never too silly, unimportant, or odd. And understand we all have similar curiosities as we live the kid life 🤣🤭
