We’re back with our Takeover Tuesday series! During this time, we would like to amplify Palestinian voices as much as we can.

Lina Barkawi is the founder of Lina’s Thobe, where she creates personalized thobes that tell people’s unique stories. She is also one of the hosts of the recently launched podcast, Tatreez Talk which aims to stitch together the narratives of Palestinian embroidery.

Lina has been an active voice on Palestine, and she is taking over our stories to share about herself as well as her perspective on what’s currently happening in Gaza.

Head over to our stories now to tune in!

❌350+ Brands to Boycott❌

If like us, you’re researching brand by brand to check whether it is BDS safe or not, look no further! We’ve compiled a master list in order to make it easier for those who want to join the BDS movement.

Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) is a global Palestinian movement that promotes freedom, justice and equality. It is made up of unions, academic associations, grassroots movements, and churches around the world.

BDS is calling to boycott the following brands in order to pressure Israel to comply with international law and to persuade these brands to end their participation in Israel’s crimes.

As we have seen with Starbucks, which has lost over 11 billion dollars, and claimed bankruptcy in Morocco, boycotting really does work.

This is one of the small ways we can make a difference and help the Palestinian cause. It is important, now more than ever, to use our consumer power in the fight against injustice.

‼️ Are there any brands we didn’t include in this list? Share them with us in the comments below!

💬 We would also love to hear what alternatives you have been using in place of these brands!

After a year-long hiatus, we are finally back and ready to serve with purpose.

In the midst of the horrific genocide in Palestine right now where over 10,000 Palestinians have been killed, and nearly have of them children, it is important now more than ever to use our voices to speak truth to power and stand up against this injustice.

For far too long, our voices have been silenced. For far too long, our narrative has been tainted with Islamophobic stereotypes and the racially criminalizing association of all Muslims, Middle Easterners and Arabs with terrorism.

Post 9/11, Muslims everywhere experienced heightened discrimination, isolation, hatred and fear, causing many to shy away from expressing their religious and cultural identities. And hear we are reliving that trauma. We are once again being fear-mongered into silence, and having to prove our humanity to the world.

As seen in the past month, there has been a multitude of misinformation, lies and propaganda spread about the ongoing genocide of Palestinians. Western media is once again framing the narrative around terrorism in order to justify Israel’s war crimes as self-defense.

But through social media, people are finally seeing the reality.

It is evident just how powerful and needed our voices are in sharing the truth and educating others about the history of Palestine.

We will be centering our content on the Palestinian cause: providing educational articles, news updates, content that amplifies Palestinian brands and voices, as well as resources for those looking for ways to help.

We can and will not continue to allow ourselves to be villainized, our voices to be silenced, our identity to be misrepresented, and our lives to be undervalued.

The time is NOW to speak up for what’s right and to stand on the right side of history. So don’t stop posting or sharing about Palestine. Don’t stop calling your representatives to demand a ceasefire. Don’t stop educating your friends, coworkers, and neighbors. And don’t stop making dua for Allah to have mercy on and protect the people of Gaza.

We won’t stop until Palestine is free from the river to the sea! 🇵🇸❤️

We are pleased to announce Dr. Nahla as our October 2022 Muslim Woman of the Month!

Dr. Nahla is a 30 year-old Syrian Muslim American who is currently completing her second year as a psychiatry resident.

With a combined social media following of over 210,000, Dr. Nahla has used her voice and platform to educate and advocate for others about mental health, domestic abuse, trauma, and more.

She had the unfortunate experience of being in an abusive relationship, and rather than letting it continue to impact her negatively, she is now sharing her story and healing journey to positively influence the lives of others.

Her content consists of informative posts and videos where she raises awareness about mental health and abuse, as well as offers tips and advice with the aim of empowering others and helping them heal from their traumas.

She has quickly become an influential figure in the mental health space both on and offline for victims of abuse as well as those struggling with their mental health in general, but especially among the Muslim community, where these issues are still considered relatively taboo to discuss.

In our chat, Dr. Nahla shares all about her experience with abuse, her insight on how we can address and destigmatize mental health and abuse in our community, as well as her educated insight and advice on how others can recognize, navigate and heal from abuse.

Read our full exclusive interview with Dr. Nahla that’s now live on our website to hear her story, as well as her invaluable insight on domestic violence and mental health!

We are pleased to announce Nagla Bedir as our September 2022 Muslim Woman of the Month!

Nagla Bedir is the founder and Executive Director of Teaching While Muslim, an organization that aims to support Muslim educators and spread awareness of Islamophobia in public schools.

She has been teaching social studies and psychology at a high school in New Jersey for the last ten years. She also works part-time at Rutgers University in Newark in the Urban Education Program, helping future teachers become strong and forward-thinking educators.

A daughter of two Egyptian parents, Nagla grew up in a post-9/11 world. As she began to wear hijab in adulthood, she experienced what it was like to be a teacher as a visible Muslim.

In her determination to find a community and to create a support system for herself and others, Teaching While Muslim was born.

Teaching While Muslim is beginning to pursue change at a state level through a new Muslim Studies curriculum that will be taught and mandated by schools. Nagla strongly believes in targeting the misconceptions about Muslim people at the source: the country’s educational systems.

Her work with Teaching While Muslim also provides aid and mentorship to those in need, offers workshops to further the education of Muslim history, and spreads awareness of the Muslim experience that is so rarely discussed.

Nagla is also part of a research collective known as Reclaiming Muslim Educators, a group that explores the experiences of Muslim educators in order to fight Islamophobia in schools. The collective was recently awarded a Spencer Grant for half a million dollars earlier this year to continue their important research.

She has a fierce determination to change the way society views Muslims. Revising our public education system and targeting Islamophobia is the first step toward that change. By making her own voice heard and taking active strides with Teaching While Muslim, she has encouraged many others to share their stories and to make noise in the face of adversity, rather than remain silent.

Head on over to our website to read our full exclusive interview with Nagla!
