Homeschoolers.
What I’ve heard from countless families over the years on things like “socialization” and community :
1. Community shifts and changes, as we shift and change.
2. Sometimes it’s the people we connect with first and other times it’s the interest that connects us (or our kids)
3. It doesn’t have to be just homeschoolers.
4. Sometimes the community is just for our kids, other times it’s just for us parents
5. We may have to step out of our comfort zone to make it happen. And that means it may take a few trials before we get it right.

What’s community look like for you and your family right now? For your kids?

After many years of this homeschool thing. After time in education in different capacities. After meeting countless families in the home learning journey.

It’s still more about the relationships we help our children build than the “work” we have them do.

If they don’t have that person to “smile them into smiling” then how much does any of the other stuff matter anyways???

1. My kids don’t engage in reading…how could I support them
to feel confident to start?

2. My son learns skills, for example, reading when it becomes useful to him. I worry that he may not find a need to write because everything is typed these days. Should I worry?

3. How do you handle doubting yourself? I started out a Charlotte Mason purist a few years ago and found your podcast and unschooling 2 years ago. Have been loving and seeing so much growth and curiosity but I find myself wondering if I’m doing enough and fall back into doing structured Charlotte Mason when I feel in doubt. Any tips on staying confident in unschooling?

4. I want to homeschool my 4 kids (9,7,5,3) but I don’t feel like the smartest person. Now it is fine, but later?

5. I have a 1 year old but I’m already thinking about homeschooling plans. Currently going back to work; worried if I’ll be able to sustain that goal when the time comes if I’m still working full time.

I’d love to know if any of you have NEVER faced homeschooling fears or parenting imperfections.
I’m positive that no one has it perfect 100% of the time.

But when we do have fears, how do we overcome them? What happens to us, our relationships, our homeschooling when they continue to wear us down?

Am I doing enough? what if I fail at this homeschool thing and fail them? Why do the hate reading? Writing? Is it me? what if I’m just not good enough at parenting?…

We are homeschool parents. Actually Unschooling parents✨

We began this life learning because we decided to take our kids travelling. And homeschooling just made sense. It fit with our life. We didn’t and couldn’t be confined to the school schedule. It offered us freedom. And we loved that. So we continued. And continued. Even when we were no longer travelling.

Our kids are now teens. We think they are pretty cool people.
And yes, they can read, write, are curious about life, have career goals and have jobs!
And yes, they are “socialized “ I mean, they love to socialize. They can talk to all kinds of people. Ask questions, connect and build relationships. Isn’t that socialized????

What’s the first thing that comes to mind when you think of homeschool parents? Unschooling parents?
