I have just reread my first novel, Community of Promise: The Untold Story of Moses. I feel certain that some may think it’s crazy to read one’s own novel, but I assure you it is not crazy at all. Writing a novel is not simply an exercise of the brain, just putting what you already know in a fictional setting. There were many times in the writing when I would discover words that seemed to come through me rather than from me. While reading it again, there were several times when I was struck by the unique perspective and, yes, even the wisdom in the words that showed up.
In case you think this is a novel about religion in general or Judaism in particular, you would be wrong. It is really about two very different views of what a “Promised Land” might look like. In the novel, Moses and some like-minded people search for a Promised Land that is more about quality of community rather than geography and ownership.
We live in a country (world?) that is motivated by significant greed and fear. One could argue that greed is a manifestation of fear. Our politicians have learned that scaring people is the best way to get elected. This “Community of Promise” is based in compassion, love, and deep relatedness. It is my view that our country and world need lots more compassion, love, and respectful relatedness.
One last detail, at the end of the book there is a study guide to help readers dig deeper into understanding the Community of Promise paradigm.
Many of you have read the book but even more of you have not. I would welcome more readers.
This is the first of two novels, and you can get "Community of Promise" for half price if you buy "The Wisdom Weaver" for full price. Details and purchase at entospress.com
If you decide to organize a study group, I would be pleased to participate with you on Zoom a couple of times.
Finally, I ask those of you who have read the book to add your impressions in the comments.
Thanks!
