Coming into St. Augustine, the excitement in Pro Ski GP was ratcheted up as the powerful Kommander team featuring brothers Dustin and Tyron Motzouris arrived at round two ready to do battle after not racing at the opening tour race at Sebring, FL due to Dustin fighting off the effects of the COVID-19 virus.
Two of the vaunted “young guns” of Pro Watercross, Matthew Richuk and Camden Powell, arrived at St Augustine positioned first and second in points following the opening round in Sebring with veteran Jimmy Wilson in third. The stage was set at the picturesque Vilano Beach race site for an epic battle in the Atlantic waves.
At the drop of the flag for moto one, multi-time national and world champion Dustin Motzouris left little question in anyone’s mind that he was still on top of his game and the man to beat as he took the hole shot and rocketed his Kommander GP1 into a lead he would never relinquish in a wire to wire win. Brother Tyron Motzouris garnered a fourth place start on his Kommander GP1 behind the Bullet V4 of Camden Powell and the Kommander GP1 piloted by Mathew Richuk. After mid-moto skirmishes with both Powell and Richuk, Tyron settled into second place for the remainder of the moto. Richuk eventually worked his way past Powell for third with Powell finishing fourth and a hard-charging Jimmy Wilson in fifth.
At the start of moto two it was deja vu all over as Dustin Motzouris once again put his GP1 into the lead and again was followed by Powell, Richuk, Tyron Motzouris and Wilson. Dustin would go on to another wire to wire victory with Tyron Motzouris following on his GP1 in second. Jimmy Wilson was able to work his way past both Powell and Richuk for third by the checkered flag. Powell would take fourth with Mathew Richuk experiencing fuel pump relay issues but still able to hang on for fifth.
At the drop of the start flag for moto three it was eighteen year old Camden Powell taking the hole shot followed by the Kommander GP1 of Jules Hopkins, seventeen year old Devin Farthing on his GP1 in third, Wilson in fourth and Dustin Motzouris in Fifth. Tyron Motzouris would begin moto three mired in seventh. By lap four Dustin would work his way into the lead where he would go on to finish a perfect day with three moto wins for the overall on the day. Likewise Tyron methodically worked his way through the field for his third second place finish to take second overall. Jimmy Wilson finished out a strong performance on the day with a third in both moto three and on the day.
