Congrats to Kevin and Elly Nerger who tied the knot on Saturday, August 17 at Graceland Community Church in Terre Haute. The reception was held there too.

The crowd was engaged with the music even during the dinner hour. Guests could be seen singing and swaying to various songs: “Stand by Me,” “Love Story,” “You Belong With Me,” “I Want It That Way,” and “Sweet Caroline.”

Many of the usual suspects brought the house down: “September,” Cupid Shuffle,” “Cha Cha Slide,” “Cotton Eyed Joe,” “Uptown Funk,” “Celebration,” and “Stayin Alive.”

Best wishes to Adam & Mandi Noel! They were married in O’Shaughnessy Dining Hall at St. Mary of the Woods College on 8/3/24. I had played there a zillion times back in the day but not in recent times. It was nice returning to O’Shaughnessy which had been the home of the “Sunday Brunch” – a local favorite for many years.

Everyone had a good time. I must have played every popular line dance in the book! Hip-hop requests were fast and furious during the final hour.

Best wishes to Ryan and Elizabeth Chambers who tied the knot on June 29. Their reception was held at Homestead in the Hallow near Brazil, IN.

The attendees were a lively bunch. Even during the dinner hour several guests were spotted gyrating and/or singing to “My Girl” by the Temptations, Natasha Bedingfield’s “Unwritten,” Taylor Swift’s “Love Story,” and others.

Open dancing covered pretty much the entire spectrum: country, rock, rap, hip-hop, and oldies.

Best wishes to Seth and Sophia Goodwin who were married at the Acorn Ridge Barn near Sullivan, IN on May 25. The ceremony was held outside and the reception indoors.
Several “Swifties” were caught dancing to Taylor’s “Love Story” while waiting in the dinner line. Later during the meal, a guest passed by the DJ table whistling to “My Girl” by the Tempts.
Everyone enjoyed the generational/married couples dance. The longest was 54 years!
During open dancing, most of the usual suspects were well received. The "Cupid Shuffle” is always a crowd favorite!

Best Wishes to Zoe and Shane Hapenny who were married on Saturday, March 30 at the Homestead In The Hallow in Brazil, Indiana.

Music wise the place was jammed and jumpin' all evening with a wide variety of artists and genres. During dinner "Dreams" by Fleetwood Mac and Morgan Wallen's "Last Night" were noticeable winners.

Towards the end of the night, several of the groomsmen were thrilled with "Mr. Brightside" by the Killers.

Great party!

I had a fabulous time Saturday night, March 23 playing music at a jammed-packed Main Event on outer Margaret Avenue east of the city (Kathy Sturgeon – owner/operator).

It was the Riley Lions Club annual Second Chance Senior Prom.

The place was alive all evening with a lots of dancing, door prizes, a 50/50, a silent auction, and much more.

The crowd enjoyed a huge variety of music and did every line dance under the sun!

Slow songs were well received. They sang along big time to REO’s “Keep On Lovin’ You.”

Hopefully, a few were able to catch some of my nationally-syndicated radio show, Wayback Saturday Night, on the way home.

Through the marvels of technology I can be two places at once!

Local/area affiliates include 106.3 WPFR, as well as 94.7 and AM 800 in Casey.

The company Christmas party complete with door prizes and entertainment was once a holiday season tradition, often stretching into January due to the overwhelming demand.

The full blown away-from-the-office Yuletide party is slowly making a comeback.

Congrats to Dottie Stanfill who celebrated her 70th birthday with family and friends on 10/14/23 at a jammed packed Boot City Opry south of Terre Haute.

Dottie requested contemporary Christian music for the dinner hour. No problem! I played everything from the Michael W. Smith classic, “Friends,” and “I Can Only Imagine” by MercyMe….to Toby Mac’s “Speak Life” and “You Say” by Lauren Daigle.

During open dancing, oldies/classic hits were the clear favorites: “Old Time Rock & Roll,” the Grease blockbuster “You’re The One That I Want,” “Best of My Love by the Emotions, “Runaround Sue,” and “I Will Survive” were crowd pleasers.

The Beatles set “Twist and Shout,” “I Saw Her Standing There,” and “Eight Days A Week” rocked the house!

Best wishes to Michael & Joelle Skaggs who tied the knot on Saturday, October 7 at the U.S. Penitentiary Employees Club southeast of Terre Haute.

Taylor Swift’s “Love Story” and “I Want It That Way” by the Backstreet Boys were noticeable hits during the dinner hour.

The shoe game pleased everyone.

Once open dancing began, the usual suspects packed the dance floor: “Cupid Shuffle,” “Cha Cha Slide,” “Uptown Funk,’ “Shake It Off,” “It’s Tricky,” “Get Low” and others.

Due to requests I was able to use “The Atomic Dog” and “Copperhead Road” which I hadn’t played in a while.

Lovey dovey songs which have been somewhat less popular at parties in recent years were still in vogue with this particular crowd. “Wonderful Tonight,” “Amazed,” “I Cross My Heart,” and “Beautiful Crazy” (Luke Combs) were among the favorites.

2024 will be another busy year for weddings, anniversaries, class reunions, birthdays, and other social events needing music. The rush is already on! Expect these three dates to be especially popular:

Congrats to Mikey and Jessie Kirk who had a destination wedding in Show Low, Arizona; located roughly three hours north of Phoenix. Their reception was held a week later on 9/8/23 at the Sycamore Red Barn on Terre Haute’s far east side.

During the dinner hour, Billy Joel’s signature hit “Piano Man,” “Africa” by Toto, the Backstreet Boys “I Want It That Way,” Alan Jackson’s “Livin on Love,” and the all-time Karaoke classic, “Don’t Stop Believin” by Journey, all generated noticeable responses.

Once open dancing began, these were among the tunes that ruled the floor: “The Cupid Shuffle,” “The Cha Cha Slide,” “Amazed” by Lonestar, and the Swifties fav, “Shake It Off.”

It was the first time I had seen the relatively new “Church Clap” line dance performed live in person.

Best wishes to the South Vermillion High School class of 1978! The ‘78 cats (as in wildcats) celebrated 45 years on Sunday, September 3 at the Rangeline Conservation Club just west of Clinton, IN.

Because it was a reunion, catching up and reminiscing dominated much of the evening.

Music wise it was a wide variety with ‘70s rock appearing on center stage. Foreigner’s “Cold as Ice,” “Black Betty” from Ram Jam, Ted Nugent’s “Cat Scratch Fever,” “Rock & Roll All Night” by Kiss, and Kansas “Carry on Wayward Son” were among the crowd favs.

A special thank you goes to Nancy Inman who invited me to DJ. Other committee members included: Maggie Stockwell, Dee Luce, Debbie Kuykendall, and Kim Bruce.

Best wishes to Alan and Jennifer Auman who tied the knot on 7/15/23 at the Ohio Building in downtown Terre Haute, now under new ownership. The reception was held there as well.

They chose Etta James “At Last” for their first and last dances.

Guests swayed to several songs during the cocktail/dinner hours, including “Neon Moon’” by Brooks and Dunn.

There were a number of Swifties, so “Shake It Off” and “You Belong With Me” were show stoppers!

Other hits included the “Cha Cha Slide” (no surprise there), “Brown Eyed Girl,” “Respect,” “Boogie Shoes,” “Party In the U.S.A.,” “Ignition Remix,” and “Regulate.”

I dug out Al Green’s “Let’s Stay Together” by request.

For the first time in 42 years, two country songs stand atop the iconic Billboard Hot 100 chart, which today is predominately pop and hip hop:

“Last Night” by Morgan Wallen and “Fast Car” by Luke Combs have the honors.

In 1981, it was “I Love A Rainy Night” by Eddie Rabbitt and Dolly Parton’s “9 to 5.”

The new Barbie Girl movie has spawned a tune from Niki Minaj and Ice Spice. It’s also rejuvenated the ‘90s novelty hit “Barbie Girl” by Aqua.

Brett Young of “In Case You Didn’t Know” fame has a catchy new ballad “Dance with You.” It’ll likely be an instant favorite at weddings.

Olivia Rodrigo is back. “Vampire” is drawing immediate attention.

And watch out for Fall Out Boy’s “updated” version of “We Didn’t Start The Fire.” It features names, places, events from the news that have taken place since the Billy Joel classic.
