Over the past eight years, the Texas film industry has generated approximately $655 million in economic impact for the City of Fort Worth. This influx of capital has rippled through various sectors of the local economy, from hospitality to equipment rentals and catering services.

Perhaps even more impressive is the job creation. The film industry has birthed more than 20,000 local jobs during this period and these opportunities are not fleeting. They contribute to the long-term economic stability of Texas.

We are deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Tony Todd, a cinematic icon whose performances left an indelible mark on film and television. Known widely for his powerful portrayal in Candyman, Tony captivated audiences with his magnetic presence, blending fear with humanity in ways that made him unforgettable. Beyond the screen, he was a kind soul and a passionate advocate for storytelling, especially within the horror genre, where he broke barriers and redefined the role of the antihero. His legacy lives on in the countless artists he inspired and in the memorable characters he brought to life.

The versatile actor had hundreds of screen credits to his name, including Platoon, The Rock and Final Destination.

While the realization of a Texas A&M University Fort Worth campus is years away, the university’s virtual production studio space is closer to reality.

A movie screen, LED walls and more than 20 motion capture cameras will create what college officials call “an immersive movie set” — all in the center of downtown Fort Worth.

The Texas A&M studio is just one way that Fort Worth and area colleges are training students for careers in the city’s expanding creative economy.

“When productions are looking for a film location, one of the first things they ask about is our local workforce,” said Taylor Hardy, film commissioner and director of video content at Visit Fort Worth. “When they have these locals that are highly trained in these specialized fields, they’re able to come in and get to work right away, rather than bringing people from out of state.”

Colleges across Tarrant County are stepping up their investments in film career programs. Texas A&M’s visualization studio is the latest example.

And that's a wrap on a very successful 2024 Lone Star Film Festival! Big congratulations to Chad Mathews and the Lone Star Film Society on their 18th year of producing this fantastic festival.

From the opening night gala (Fred looked like James Bond in his tux) to Innovative Babble's Fireside Chat about AI in our industry (Ian's one smart cookie) to the beautiful screening of "Sing Sing" (CJ's a crier) - we had a blast!

We stopped by Red Productions to visit with our board member Red Sanders and CJ fell hopelessly in love with their de facto mascot - a burly English Bulldog named Rex.

It was wonderful spending time with Fort Worth Film Commissioner Taylor Hardy and other colleagues we don't get to see often enough. But it's always special meeting new folks, like Brewer High School teacher Stephen Yates whose students had a film in the festival.

It was a great weekend packed with wonderful moments, and here are two of our favorites:

When Sing Sing co-writer & director Greg Kwedar spoke about the magic of film festivals, and what it means to sit together in a theater watching stories that leave us feeling more connected and alive.

In a darkly ironic twist, everyone's phone received an emergency text during the Q&A for "Nuked" - a film about a group of friends celebrating a 40th birthday when they receive an emergency text that a ballistic missile is headed their way.

We're thrilled to have this festival partnership and look forward to returning to the fastest growing city in the country!
