In April 2016, a group of Muslims met together for the first time to create a mental health initiative to address serious psych-based issues in their community. Since then, we have created a volunteer collective with a clear mission: to destigmatize mental health challenges by creating forums of education, advocacy, and awareness using a culturally responsive, faith-informed approach. In 2020, we

deeply reflected on our brand and mission, and we are excited to launch the newest evolution of our collective: The Heal Collective. As we take on 2021 alongside our beloved community, our Team is humbly honored to tackle the challenges that will inevitably come along. We are deeply grateful for our community that has supported us as Muslims Thrive, and we hope that you’ll stay and keep healing with us on this next leg of our journey. We believe that together, we can meet our mission of creating forums for education, advocacy, and awareness - through healing, empathy, acceptance and love.

Ramadan Mubarak to all our community members taking part in this month.

We hope and pray for a month of renewal, of community and of deep spirituality for all of us.

Millions of Muslims experience and struggle with physical and mental health challenges that make it hard to participate in the month the way others might be.
We see you. And we are here for you.

This month, we will be sharing new content through our Instagram Lives and our posts to elaborate on how this month can impact your health and well-being.

The Root

People of color in the U.S. have endured centuries of abuse in the name of science—maybe it's time we stop celebrating this blatantly racist history.

"I’m Not Going to Marry a Divorced Woman"

"The divorced woman is not naive or high maintenance, she knows what marriage is about and her expectations of it are real. She is not after your money or assets, she probably has her own. And she has had experience at dealing with conflict and has learnt many valuable lessons from her previous marriage"

I remember a conversation I had with a male friend a few years back. He was looking for a wife but “despairing” at the women he was being introduced to. “Why? What’s wrong with them?” I

Colin Kaepernick Will Not Be Silenced

"I always tell Colin: "You are an American hero. You may not feel like a hero right now, but one day, people will realize the sacrifices that you made for so many others." There might even be a day when we'll be walking down Colin Kaepernick Boulevard and people will remember what Colin Kaepernick did, just like we remember Muhammad Ali. And I truly believe that in my heart." - Linda Sarsour

Colin Kaepernick's protest against police brutality puts him in rare company in sports history.

Analysis | Why doesn’t the Muslim community look up to its black celebrities?

“I don’t think it’s just because Mahershala Ali is Ahmadi,” said Su’ad Abdul Khabeer, a professor of American Culture at the University of Michigan and author of “Muslim Cool: Race, Religion and Hip Hop in the United States.” “I also think it’s because Mahershala Ali is black.”

There’s a double-standard for Muslims in entertainment, and race, cultural background and class play a part.

No, You're Not Just Being Sensitive About Small, Seemingly Racist Comments

Teen Vogue ftw example #20
"According to the American Psychological Association, after experiencing these type of degrading comments for an extended period of time, POCs can begin to believe that their feelings are illegitimate and question their feelings and experiences. As a result, a person can begin to experience depression, anxiety, fear of social interaction, and self-esteem and confidence issues."

It's called a microinvalidation.

A letter to all the 30+ Single Asian and Arab Guys - Fifteen21 Youth Magazine

"So, when you’re next warming up your bowl of curry for one, made lovingly by your mother, please take a moment to reflect (and in some instances LITERALLY reflect) on why you’re truly single. It’s not because there is a global shortage of ‘good women’, but because you have a completely unrealistic idea of what you want in a wife."

Chadwick Boseman Chose His Black Panther Accent to Make a Point About White Supremacy

✊🏼 "People think about how race has affected the world. It’s not just in the States. Colonialism is the cousin of slavery. Colonialism in Africa would have it that, in order to be a ruler, his education comes from Europe. I wanted to be completely sure that we didn’t convey that idea because that would be counter to everything that Wakanda is about. It’s supposed to be the most technologically advanced nation on the planet. If it’s supposed to not have been conquered — which means that advancement has happened without colonialism tainting it, poisoning the well of it, without stopping it or disrupting it — then there’s no way he would speak with a European accent."

The whole point of Wakanda is that it is a truly isolated nation—isolated by its people’s own choosing, turning itself into a technological utopia away from the influence of people beyond its borders. That isolation became crucial to Chadwick Boseman’s portrayal of Black Panther, because he wanted t...
