On Nov. 22, the foundation partnered with Smith’s Food and Drug stores and Jordan Clarkson of the Utah Jazz to provide holiday dinners to some ecstatic and grateful children. The event took place at Valley Junior High where turkey and other holiday essentials were distributed.

The Granite Education Foundation, the district’s philanthropic organization, helped distribute holiday meals to families with some help from notable guests.

In 2015, Zions Bank President and CEO A. Scott Anderson founded the Women’s Leadership Institute, a 501(c)(3) dedicated to making Utah a better place for women. At an awards ceremony on Oct. 13, Anderson was presented with the inaugural Women’s Leadership Institute A. Scott Anderson Ally Award, named after him to honor his advocacy for women.

More than 60 organizations were recognized by the Women’s Leadership Institute for their efforts to encourage women in leadership roles.

Although Utah’s poverty rate is one of the lowest in the nation, thousands of children in the state grow up in intergenerational poverty. More than 70% of children growing up in IGP are under 10 years old, and women have much higher odds of struggling with poverty than men.

Circles Salt Lake helps people break the cycle of intergenerational poverty by connecting them to allies who help them move forward.

On Dec. 10 morning, between 9 a.m. and noon, Cottonwood PTA will accept donations for the school’s Christmas Extravaganza, which provides items for students to give to family members, said Jennifer Young, who is on the Cottonwood PTA planning committee. Donations can be dropped off at Cottonwood High, 5715 S. 1300 East.

“We love that this is a huge community event, people helping other people, giving so these students can have a great Christmas,” said a Cottonwood High School PTA organizer about the upcoming need for donations for the annual Christmas Extravaganza.
