Reel Time Surf Fishing

Had a great time surf fishing yesterday with family and friends. We started at first light and fished until about 1 pm. The water was clear, and there wasn't any grass around. We began with a couple hardheads, then moved on to catch plenty of ladyfish. We were lucky to land three keeper pompano and released a few smaller ones back into the gulf. All keeper pomps were landed on Reel30A’s SurfPro 9ft and 12’6” rods. Bait of choice was FishGum’s OP bait soaked shrimp tipped with Pomp Smash. Shout out to to the homie Brooks Reid for the OP and FishGum plug lol. A fantastic day on the water was had for sure!

What an incredible weekend in the Panhandle for the Shoreline Showdown Surf Fishing Tournament Series hosted by Fishbites and their awesome sponsors! 🎣🌊 My wife, two daughters, and I had a blast, the early morning started with a crap ton of action from ladyfish and hardtails. The real excitement kicked in mid-morning when the pompano finally showed up. While the numbers weren’t huge, the quality was top-notch!

We ended the day with 3 eater whiting and 3 pompano, with our biggest fish tipping the scales at 2.54 lbs and an aggregate weight of 5.93 lbs. That was enough to land us on the podium alongside two great anglers Larry Grossman and JJ Jurich! These two gents have been killing it so it was an honor to share the podium with them.

A big shoutout to Reel30A for a killer line of rods for making it all possible. The SurfPro 9ft was perfect for landing the whiting, while the SurfPro 12'6" made easy work of the pompano. All our fish were caught using a single drop rig with an Owner Mutu Light size 1 hook, either naked or with a single GREEN GETM RIGS green bead. Ghost shrimp was the bait of choice.

🎣🔥 Just had an epic first light hit at Pensacola Beach in the Florida Panhandle! 🏖️ Caught my FIRST Jack Crevelle and it's a monster – 35 inches of pure adrenaline rush! 🐟💪 Reel30A 9ft rod and Penn Battle 3 DX 5000 reel battled like a champ. 🙌 Spooled with 15 lb braid and a 15 lb mono shock leader, this setup was unstoppable! And let's talk about that self tied rig – 15 lb fluorocarbon double drop pomp rig with chartreuse floats, pink Hyper -Vis tape, and size 1 Owner Mutu Light hooks! 💥🎣

Water clarity: chocolate milk
Winds: gnarly

Fished today with no pressure, stayed off social media and limited my contact with others. I had no expectations of getting on fish because of the current conditions. Boy was I in for a treat. 4 keepers at spot 1 and 7 keepers at spot two with one decent weigh in fish. All were caught on a self tied rigs with a combination of pink and chartreuse floats with some Hyper -Vis + tape with frozen shrimp and sandflea Fishbites. Reel30A 12’6” performed flawlessly. Got to see my two homies David Scott and The Luckiest Angler also get on fish.

I landed my first Big Ugly on the Reel30A 9FT Surf Pro Rod! Battled it out with a single drop 15lb flouro rig, modified white float with a piece of Hyper -Vis + jalapeño, size 1 owner hook and 15lb mono leader baited with a sandflea.

Fished 30A from 5:30 am to 11 am on Sunday , landed one nice pompano and a slot red. Pompano was almost 16” and weighed 2.6 lbs, the red was right at 27”. Used my Reel30A SurfPro 9ft paired with a Penn Battle 3 DX 5000, 15lb True Braid with a self tied single 17lb fluorocarbon dropper. Both fish ate medium sized sand fleas tipped with FishGum pomp candy.
