Sagebook Journey
I spent this past year writing and publishing a Cantonese children’s book, but the spotlight more deservedly goes to my kiddo who finished Sagebooks 500 in 11 months! I still can’t believe it. 🤯
For anyone who’s unfamiliar, Sagebooks 500 is a leveled reader book set of 25 books that end up teaching 500 Chinese characters. Two to three thousand characters is considered to be literate, so this is just to help develop a good base along with the Chinese classes she did this past year. 💪🏻
My kiddo climbed mountains 🏔️ (pun intended to Set 1, Book 1) to surpass all my initial hopes of speech and/or literacy. 🥹🥰 Mom (me) was born in Canada, a heritage speaker. Kiddo is half Chinese born in Canada, a fluent Canto speaker. I am in awe of her intense curiosity with learning. 🙇🏻♀️ We do our best to keep her challenged! We’re a household that embraces multilingualism with kiddo learning a third language in school, and dabbling in a couple more following her interest.
