As the small band, DJ and artist game is constantly changing. Bumping, gassing up and blasting your local folks that you love isn't enough.

So if you have time today go through spotify, bandcamp, instagram, X (ugh) and mixcloud (*cough* us DJs need love too) and follow your peeps.

I know a ton of people doing booking that look at IG and Spotify follower count before they will even read a contract. And the big case in point right now is Dark Force Fest, gotta have that 1000 follower count for a band to be looked at.

You really want to bump up things for the bands you love? Make playlist on music platforms of the artists you want to see booked. When you aren't listening to whatever streaming service just have that list on repeat at home on loop and mute.

Also if you are a Band, DJ, performer, vendor, venue owner, promoter, or booking contact and work within/under the Goth Industrial umbrella in the US I strongly suggest you join the FB group

Goth\Industrial North America Booking Assistance by EBM Worldwide

and get on the spreadsheet, the resource only works if it is used and you are on it.

Get your google business page up, it is free and can help with hits.

Also get a damn EPK (electronic press kit) set up even if you are just a DJ. I am lazy and use bandzoogle and pay the lazy tax on it. EPK example though I need to retitle the sub-page "Media Kit" to "EPK and Media Kit" and I need to put up a better header background

unpopular opinion, maybe just on reddit /snark

Genre is not as important as feel

and it isn't just lyrics. Copacabana is pretty goth to be fair romance blood death lust, but feel wise it isn't. Other tracks feel goth even though they are in other genres and if the crowd isn't up their own noses and the DJ drops it in the right place it works

Where you put a song, where you are a selector as well as a DJ, counts. Placement makes the feel.

The feel makes a story

Drop a beat make a story

Hell give the dancefloor their own universe for the night

DJ rig now next to my work desk, I recently got a Rekordbox Interface 2 unit for DVS but it fried out in less than 24 hours (on a surge protector and none of my other gear ate it).

So that will be returned and I am looking for another DVS solution, one that I can trust to gig with again. If it barfs in my controlled home environment I do not want to bring it to a gig

DJ Music Library management whining ahead

Whelp apparently at some point Native Instruments DJ software Tracktor added Smart playlists and I missed the memo.

I have been working within iTunes Smart playlists and using the grouping field for smart playlist/crates.

It would be beautiful to elimainate the reading of the iTunes playlist xml before I start DJ'ing for traktor to handle it all.

However I can't recreate my playlists natively in Traktor because I have embedded any/all stacks in each smart playlist.

So my options are continue as normal and have an extra time /small processor hiccup + remain reliant on iTunes for Library management (which always runs into hiccups after a year of adding music and I have to readd my whole library and keeps me from rsyncing my big music box, DJ laptop and media laptop (I had planned to set up a rsync daemon on my big box to keep everything in step but again iTunes doesn't natively scan and add things in its music folder)
OR
hijack an id3 tag like composer that is common in both or add a bunch more gak to the comments1 id3 tag either of which will involve creating smart playlists just to accomplish this easily. I don't really want to add to the comment1 idg tagas it already has energy level-camelot key- Bandcamp url or other source info

I don't want to continue as normal relying on iTunes.

The flow usually goes lioke this new music purchase/download happpens on the big box, gets crammed through mixed in key, then dropped into iTunes which copies it to the right folder. I listen to it in a "Music added after
