At one of my sales I was asked if I had a postcard of Sandy Hook. That is one large area and I did not print one. But the person wanted a before and after of a beach area. This USGS image will be the after.

Glad to sell a framed set of the Seaside Park postcards to a happy customer at the Hurdtown Flea market last Sunday. I hear there are many Newark police and firemen who own near the Fun Town Amusement Pier. I hope they like this gift!

This is for Alexandra.. High Bar Harbor in Barnegat Light. Three pics.. USGS from 2009 and the beach shot. NOAA from 2012... This is an example of the type of work I can do to put together the images. All are in a low DPI for upload purposes. the 2012 view of High Bar Harbor will need to take 4 different images pieced together.

Chicken or the Egg (Chegg) is reopening April 1st. This is one of the (NOAA) photos (not 72 dpi) I will be available when I am at the Beach Haven Craft Fair on July 12. This was a cut from Marine to Second. All Chegg fans know this area of the shore.

The detail of the NOAA photos is exceptional and can really be seen with a loupe.

I heard Mantoloking may use Geotubes like Beach Haven. After looking up Geotubes and finding an article from the Press of Atlantic City, I found they put the tubes on Merivale, Leeward and Nelson streets.

I Created this USGS photo before and after of the area. I can only imagine how bad it would have been without the geotubes.

This 1973 National Archives photo describes what I think is now Eastpointe Condos in Highlands, NJ

Compare Katrina to Sandy. Waffle House flattened. Ok, So I was comparing Hurricane Katrina to Sandy via USGS and the National Archive photos. Katrina's landfall was 8/29/05, 7 1/2 years since. This photo shows how a Waffle House in Biloxi MS (1759 Beach Boulevard) was flattened along "Beach Blvd' a.k.a. US 90 and an aerial view from July, 2009, 4 years from Katrina's landfall. Two amusement parks next to and across the street from Waffle House did not reopen. The Ramada Inn across the street did.

For the curious, look at Bing's Birds Eye view and Google's street view to get a sense of how things looked 3 -4 years after Katrina's made landfall.

I never knew that Bay Head had a sea wall until these USGS photos became public. I have a postcard in production that illustrates this. Hopefully it tests well and becomes part of the final set.

I think this shot of a house on the beach of Holgate on LBI just says so much. The 2009 USGS photo makes the house look buried, like it is sitting on the dunes. The 2012 USGS photo uncovers the pilings. Those dunes are at least 22' high. I can understand why so much damage was done to anything in the way of Sandy.

Ok, so I am continuing to view some of the thousands of miles of coastline and came across the pilot's strange circle pattern, just off of Cape Cod. He found a couple of Humpbacks. This is a USGS photo.

Put together this Before and After (USGS) of the Parking Area of Holgate (Long Beach Township) on Long Beach Island (LBI). We took the photo while staying at the Jolly Roger Motel, July 21, 2012. And another from our movie 2 24 2013 showing the parking lot entrance. Photo Comparison Tip: A good way to compare photo to photo is "locking" on the telephone poles.

I put these four photos into one .jpeg to make an illustrative point: Interesting in several ways. The 1973 photos from the National Archives call these "Barrier Beaches" and
"Housing on the Dunes" - no place, no identification, no city or state name; very simple. As if there was no ownership. The photographer, Hope Alexander, added place names to many of his other 300+ photos and I believe s/he would have if this was a named placed. Now, the 2012 pictures (USGS) of Mantoloking, NJ are still "Barrier Beaches" and "Housing on the Dunes" - yet we would not refer to them that way. When you look at the simple houses on the dunes it just seems obvious that someday they will take a hit from powerful water nearby, no matter how strong you make them.

This "before and after" Hurricane Sandy Aerial Photo composite (USGS) shows how close the beach is to the houses. I could have chosen any block. Many feature the same type of damage.
