It feels like we've been busy every day recently - we've had birthday parties galore, school Christmas fun and lots of family visits.

So we are definitely ready for this one at our house - will be hot chocolate and Arthur Christmas for us (although if it was just me it would be A Wonderful Life)

We finished school and work yesterday so we're definitely feeling the Christmas spirit in our house now.

Many of those who work in retail and hospitality will be waking up with a bit of festive dread this morning at the prospect of the busy week ahead.

Raise a smile from your delivery drivers with a little thank you note on your door or in your window.

Day 14 - Be kind to the planet.

When I get completely overstimulated from all the new toy noise and overstuffed from all the cheese I insist my family accompany me on a festive stomp to blow the cobwebs away - usually Boxing Day for us.

The ‘leave no trace’ principles are a great way to talk to your kids about respecting the countryside.

I know you have a tin of something lurking in the cupboard that would be welcomed at your local food bank (make sure it's in date though, they don't want one of my Mum's expired Dec 2011 beauties!).

Shout out to my lovely friends the Gray's for inspiration on this one, they set up Newlands Food Bank during Covid - a perfect example of amazing people doing amazing things for others in their community 🥰

Come the 25th families in Japan head to KFC, in Sweden they build a 49ft giant goat and in Iceland the Yule Lads leave rotten potatoes for anyone on the naughty list.

We'll be having a trip to our local today with some of our toys that don't get loved or played with anymore - would be great if you did the same.

Day 9 - Be kind to yourself (and dance).

I think this may be my favourite one - I love a Christmas song 🎄🎼

Hands down favourite in our house this year is 'Must be Santa 🎅' by Bob Dylan. Our youngest toddles off to nursery singing it every day.

Day 8 - Be kind to yourself.

If you're anything like us at the moment life consists of flying from one Christmas event to another - nativities, parties, birthday parties - well I'm hoping this one buys you enough time to have a hot cuppa in peace (so it should maybe be a 'be kind to others' one really).

There are a few festive puzzles for them to try in our stories today - you'll just need to screenshot them.

Christmas Kindness Calendar Day 6 - Be kind to the planet.

🐦 Feed the birds - it's getting chilly out now and our little friends need a bit of help finding some food.

Two options for today - for the anti crafters you can simply sprinkle some sunflower seeds (Black sunflower seeds are better to use than striped sunflower seeds due to their higher oil content.) out in the garden for our feathered friends.

For the crafters amongst us you can find some instructions on how to make a natural bird feeder in our stories (I'll save them as a highlight too).

Lots of big charities run festive campaigns which is fantastic, however lots of the smaller ones don't have the funds or resources to do so.

So today we'll each learn about a small local charity with our little ones - mine will be The Cellar Trust.

Did you know that 227,000 miles of wrapping paper is thrown away each year*? That would wrap around the world 9 times.

Now I'm not saying we can combat Christmas waste, but every little helps - so drop something in to the recycling bin or make a trip to the glass bank today.

I love Christmas but I can’t help but 🙈 at all the excess waste that comes with it.

I was just reading that 7.5 million mince pies get thrown away each year! Which is wild to me as there is never a crumb of them left at our house - are they binned at yours?

Anyway, I digress, so eight of our kindness tasks will open up conversations with our little ones about how we can be kind to the planet.

There will be minimal crafting involved in our kindness tasks (and definitely NO GLITTER ✨)
