So I wrote on the music blog again. Huh. How about that?

Yes, I’ve been absent again. 2 years since my last post. Sorry about that. I did actually put together a “Burgo’s Top Albums of 2022” with all the intent of posting here last year, but life got in the way. If you’re interested in what made the cut, you can still find the playlist on […]

Burgo's Top Albums of 2017 | Burgo's Music Blog

Well yes, here I am. I know, it's been a while. In fact, it turns out last year was the first year since this blog's founding that I didn't do a "Best Albums of the Year" post, and - even though I haven't posted on this blog at all since my "Best of 2015" post - I was determined to get something out this year. 9 Crimes – Damien Rice

On the other side of the door, a party. A hive of activity. In this kitchen, a sphere of silence. His eyes met hers. It was the wrong time for this. The wrong place. A small crime, but a crime of the heart is a little murder in the night. A crime nonetheless. And no one could come back from that. [ 32 more words ]

10 years, and a challenge... | Burgo's Music Blog

Burgo's Music Blog turns 10 years old this year. It's absolutely blowing my mind to think that through, and everything it means. In that time I've written about over 500 songs to share with you, and it's crazy looking back at them all.

So, to celebrate that 10 years, I've set myself a challenge. It's a series of posts that I'm going to run over this year, culminating in a final playlist. This could go badly, but read more here...

Believe it or not, loyal reader, Burgo’s Music Blog is now in its 10th year.…

10 years, and a challenge…

Believe it or not, loyal reader, Burgo's Music Blog is now in its 10th year. Yes, the "little blog that could" started off in 2007, which is absolutely blowing my mind right now. In that time I've had millions of page views, hundreds of comments, and over 500 songs written about on this site. How the heck do you celebrate something like that? [ 304 more words ]

Turns out a full third of my "Best Albums of 2015" list are Australian releases! Great tunes from courtney barnett Kyle Lionhart Garrett Kato Tame Impala Sons of the East made it a very patriotic affair.

Wow. This is the first year since this blog launched back in 2007 that I haven’t posted during the year; my last post was a “Best of 2014” roundup. Oh well, life gets in the way. Let’s jump straight into 2015’s round up, shall we?...

South African fans - I'm looking to profile a series of albums for an upcoming project. One of the album's included in the list is Plush's "All That Is Should Be". Here's where you can help: I'm looking to give more background into the impact this album had on South African's at the time. Whether it's a memory of this album soundtracking a road trip to the South Coast, or your first romance, or getting you through Matric - I want to hear about it, no matter how small a role it played. If you have some memory, drop me a private message - whether it's a two line memory, or a couple of pages. I'd love to hear about it, and include it in the post. Obviously all will be anonymous, unless you give permission to use your name. Thanks!

HOWQUA - Fishing for Gold | Burgo's Music Blog

HOWQUA's launching his EP tonight a in Melbourne. You should go. Trust me. You'll want to say you were there.

It's been a while since I've blogged, I know. But I had to come back out of this hiatus to talk very quickly about Melbourne-based artist, HOWQUA. Put simply, this dude is exciting. In this gig, you kind of lose that excitement that music brings. You become a bit jaded, I guess... there's this funk that's all too easy to slip into, where you don't realise until too late that you've lost the thrill for a new discovery. [ 159 more words. ]

The 30 South African bands you NEED to hear! | Burgo's Music Blog

Calling all Saffa bands/music fans:

7 years ago, I wrote one of the most popular posts on this blog ever: “The 30 South African Bands You NEED to Hear!” (http://www.burgoblog.com/2007/12/07/30-south-african-bands-you-need-to-hear/). In those 7 years, that single post has had literally hundreds of thousands of visits (which kind of blows me away) and hundreds of comments.

A whole bunch of those comments are asking me to update the post with new bands.

Now, I left SA in 2005. But my love for Saffa music hasn’t diminished. So I’d love to do an update to the post for the visitors to the site, but I’m probably a bit in the dark about new bands unless they crack international exposure.

So here’s where you come in: have a South African artist that you’d love to get more exposure for? Are you a Saffa band who thinks they have what it takes? Music labels - want to spread the news about your roster? Then GET IN TOUCH. Let’s keep the talk about South African music going. Reply to this post, or drop me a line at http://www.burgoblog.com/contact/, and let’s talk…

And of course, would appreciate you spreading the word far and wide. I’d love to make the next post even bigger.

(Update: It’s been brought to my attention that some people aren’t sure how to stream the songs while reading. Um. Click the little “play” icon next to the song name. Easy, huh?) (Second Update: Song links for below entry have now expired) I used to...

MT - Dear One | Burgo's Music Blog

"Dear One" from MT (fronted by Yves Klein Blue's Michael Tomlinson) is all sorts of catchy.
