The ordinance, which the board unanimously approved to send to the village’s Plan Commission, would effectively hinder the use of vacation rental services like Airbnb and Vrbo which allows property owners to rent out residential space for shortened periods of time.

“I am honored and excited to be selected as the new superintendent for District 86,” Michael Lach said. “There is tremendous capacity and opportunity here, and I have deep respect for the history and reputation of Hinsdale Township High School District 86.”

During a special meeting on Jan. 10, the board revealed Michael Lach would assume District 86′s highest administrative role beginning July 1, under a three-year contract with a starting annual salary of $255,000.

“We feel these are cornerstones of what makes Hinsdale charming and unique,” Monica Mossburg, a 6th Street resident, said. “While one individual historic feature is not going to make or break the village, the destruction of historic 6th Street would set a dangerous precedent.”

“This has become a humanitarian issue,” DuPage County Board Chair Deborah Conroy said. “These folks primarily, young families are on these buses, many of them get off at these Metra stations and don’t even understand they’re not in Chicago yet, have to get on a train and then take the train into the city."

Since Dec. 14 the DuPage County Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Management (OHSEM) tracked 72 buses dropping off 2,988 migrant passengers across the county.

“I have truly enjoyed serving alongside you and learning from you in the past five months,” Interim-superintendent Linda Yonke said in an email to District 86 faculty and staff.

Linda Yonke, was hired as co-interim-superintendent alongside Raymond Lechner at the start of the 2023-24 school, announced she is resigning her temporary lead role with Hinsdale High School District 86 on Friday.

“Stepping out of your comfort zone is so important, and getting a hold of as many opportunities as you can,” Hinsdale Central Senior Deona Julary said. “The number one thing I’m going to do is learn from all of these different marchers from across the nation, because I really want to bring back stuff I learned to my own band.”

“Thankfully everyone remained safe and the Hinsdale Fire Department was amazing through it all,” Sam Vlahos, co-owner of the Fuller House, said in a statement to The Doings. “We are working diligently with our restoration team, insurance company and Village of Hinsdale to assess the damage and hope to have more information later this week.”
