The ordinance, which the board unanimously approved to send to the village’s Plan Commission, would effectively hinder the use of vacation rental services like Airbnb and Vrbo which allows property owners to rent out residential space for shortened periods of time.

Village of Hinsdale Board of Trustees is considering an ordinance restricting short term rentals of residential homes to require a minimum of 180 days on a lease.

During a special meeting on Jan. 10, the board revealed Michael Lach would assume District 86′s highest administrative role beginning July 1, under a three-year contract with a starting annual salary of $255,000.

“We feel these are cornerstones of what makes Hinsdale charming and unique,” Monica Mossburg, a 6th Street resident, said. “While one individual historic feature is not going to make or break the village, the destruction of historic 6th Street would set a dangerous precedent.”

Residents living on one of the last remaining brick roads in Hinsdale petitioned the village board Monday night arguing 6th Street should be repaved in brick as it has been for decades.

“This has become a humanitarian issue,” DuPage County Board Chair Deborah Conroy said. “These folks primarily, young families are on these buses, many of them get off at these Metra stations and don’t even understand they’re not in Chicago yet, have to get on a train and then take the train into the city."

Since Dec. 14 the DuPage County Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Management (OHSEM) tracked 72 buses dropping off 2,988 migrant passengers across the county.

Chris Jasculca, who was the head of the district’s communications team for four and a half years, took the role of Director of Marketing and Communications at the Latin School of Chicago, a private school near the city’s Gold Coast neighborhood.

Linda Yonke, was hired as co-interim-superintendent alongside Raymond Lechner at the start of the 2023-24 school, announced she is resigning her temporary lead role with Hinsdale High School District 86 on Friday.

The next question is how much Brendan Savage will get to play after alleging retaliation for filing a complaint against his former coach. After being cut during tryouts this year, Savage is expected to be able to practice Wednesday and play by Friday night, his mother Erin Savage said.

Brendan Savage, a senior, had started on the varsity team in past seasons but was cut during tryouts this year.

“Stepping out of your comfort zone is so important, and getting a hold of as many opportunities as you can,” Hinsdale Central Senior Deona Julary said. “The number one thing I’m going to do is learn from all of these different marchers from across the nation, because I really want to bring back stuff I learned to my own band.”

In September, Hinsdale Central Senior Deona Julary received a notice that she had been selected to lead the Macy’s Great American Marching Band, a role given to only two high schoolers each year.

According to the ISBE, Hinsdale Central continued to perform within the top 10% of public high schools in the state, earning the designation of an “Exemplary School,” with a 96% graduation rate.

“The tragic death of Sean Richards was a horrible accident, and the subsequent investigation was particularly difficult for those involved,” DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert Berlin and Hinsdale Chief of Police Brian King said in the statement. “We personally want to thank the first responding men and women directly involved at the accident scene for their efforts.”

After a three-month investigation the DuPage County MERIT Major Crash Investigation Team, Hinsdale Police and DuPage County State’s Attorney’s Office concluded the teenage driver in a July 17 fatal accident will face three traffic offenses but no criminal charges.

“Thankfully everyone remained safe and the Hinsdale Fire Department was amazing through it all,” Sam Vlahos, co-owner of the Fuller House, said in a statement to The Doings. “We are working diligently with our restoration team, insurance company and Village of Hinsdale to assess the damage and hope to have more information later this week.”

Fuller House in Hinsdale, suffered roughly $300,000 worth in damages on Sept. 3, and will remain closed until further notice.

Hinsdale Middle School seventh-grader Srinidhi Rao is competing in the Scripps National Spelling Bee in National Harbor, Maryland, which will be conducted May 30-June 1.
