BANG GANG is Eva Husson's first feature film. It plays subtitled in English at Nouvel Odéon (Cinéma) today at 22h and tomorrow Tue at 14h.
Eva Husson: "Filmmaking is my way to have a grip on reality; reorder and arrange what is, by essence, utter chaos. That's why I like the idea of a heightened reality in my films: a slight touch of realism, tainted by a passionate care for colors, framing and a sensual connection to the world." (from https://pro.festivalscope.com/director/husson)
Bio: Eva Husson (1977, France) is a writer and director living between the United States, England, Spain, Puerto Rico and France. She studied directing at the American Film Institute in Los Angeles, where she graduated as an MFA. She has taken part in the Sundance directing and writing labs and received support from the Berlin Talent Project Market and the French writing residency Casa Velazquez.
Bang Gang
Peter Debruge, Chief Film Critic, Variety: “This sexy debut by AFI-trained French director Eva Husson owes a debt to such controversial adolescent group portraits as 'The Virgin Suicides' and 'Kids.' Set amid a recent(ish) French heatwave, likely 2003, Eva Husson’s steamy “Bang Gang” is the story of a girl named George who sincerely believes she has invented the concept of the swingers party…
It’s interesting to speculate how much of herself Husson is exposing in this supposedly fact-based, clearly ironic “modern day love story” — and to fantasize what this fearless talent might do next.”

Share this post for a perfect Sunday meet-up in the Quartier Latin. L'Avenir is today at 16h at Nouvel Odeon . "Isabelle Huppert is note-perfect" says Mark Kermode, The Observer / Guardian “Is there a more commanding screen presence than Isabelle Huppert? From the spiralling American madness of Michael Cimino’s Heaven’s Gate to the diverse demands of Claire Denis’s African-set colonial parable White Material and Brillante Mendoza’s Philippines hostage drama Captive, Huppert has proved ready to rise to any challenge.
Hansen-Løve serves up unapologetic discussions of Rousseau, radicalism and revolution … but there is such life in the character of Nathalie (partly inspired by Hansen-Løve’s mother) that this weight often turns to levity and laughter. Crucially, Nathalie’s profession is central to her existence, unfashionably so for modern cinema. Beyond her marital problems, Nathalie’s primary relationship is with her books, a bond that cannot be broken.”

La Belle Saison / ‘Summertime’ Nouvel Odéon (Cinéma)
Sat oct 8 22h, Sun 18h, Mon 20h, Tue 16h.
Catherine Corsini (born 18 May 1956) is a French film director, screenwriter and actress. Her film Replay was entered into the 2001 Cannes Film Festival. Her 2012 film Three Worlds competed in the Un Certain Regard section at the 2012 Cannes Film Festival.
In April 2016, she was announced as the President of the Jury for the Caméra d'Or prize at the 2016 Cannes Film Festival. (from wikipedia)
La Belle Saison / ‘Summertime’ “A country girl falls for Cecile De France in this gently tragic French romance, which welcomes audiences into the powerful glow of their relationship.
Perhaps the world is finally ready for a le***an romance as direct and unapologetic as “Summertime,” though this beautifully realized tearjerker works as well as it does in part because the characters themselves don’t seem quite ready to follow through on the love they’re feeling. Turning back the clock to the early ’70s, Catherine Corsini delivers a luminous, golden-hued period piece in which a French farm girl (Izia Higelin) moves to Paris, where she falls for a radical feminist (Cecile De France), only to be called home by a family emergency…” Peter Debruge, Chief Film Critic, Variety

ALICE GUY.
Several months before the first commercial screening on December 28 1895, Léon Gaumont and his secretary, Alice Guy, attended a private Lumière demonstration screening.
Alice Guy quickly realised the true potential of this new technology and the following year she made her first film.
A true pioneer, she is revered as the first female director and writer of narrative fiction films, and is seen as a great visionary who experimented with Gaumont's Chronophone sound syncing system, color tinting, in*******al casting, and special effects.
