Nettie Lodge, writer and illustrator of 'Tell Tails', will be joining us in store on Saturday the 23rd of September from 9:45-11:30am!

Her wonderful book features an A-Z poetry and illustration collection, with each animal having its own story about its character, its origin, and its place in nature. An inspiring look at the rare, the endangered, the vulnerable, the mighty and the most loved animals in the world.

Books will be available in store, join us to meet the author and get your copy signed!

It's time to send in your writing for the next edition of Sparx! Submissions close 15 June.

Sparx is published annually. Each issue will contain approximately 30,000 words in order for each issue to have uniformity. Any content that does not fit the current issue may be carried over to the next. Winners from SWWVic Margaret Hazzard short story award competition are automatically included. Members are encouraged to submit work that has been previously published or won a competition prize, but this does not guarantee automatic inclusion.

The Sparx editorial committee will choose content based on quality and writers must expect some editorial liaison/editing before publication.

Guidelines for written submissions:
• open theme
• writer must be a SWWVic member at the time of submission
• stories must be the original work of the entrant
• any quotations appearing in your work must be referenced and the writer must have permission to use them prior to submitting to Sparx
• short stories maximum 2,000 words; there are no genre specifications
• poems maximum of 30 lines
• articles (non-fiction, memoir) maximum of 2000 words
• entries should be submitted as Word files set in 12pt Times New Roman font, at least 1.5 space, on an A4 page with 2.5 cm margins
• entries should be submitted by email
• please use: indents not line breaks for new paragraphs
• single quotation marks
• single space after sentences
• previously published and prize winning entries accepted, however, please ensure that you have permission to submit previously published works
Guidelines for cover image submissions:
• open theme
• images include photographs and illustrations, and may include photographs of sculptures
• images must be supplied as print quality jpeg files set at a minimum of 600dpi
• contributor must be a SWWVic member at the time of submission
• images must be the original work of the entrant
• Sparx is a portrait-orientated publication. Please keep this in mind when choosing a photograph to submit
