All Star Producer

Skills you might want in a producer: How about great musical taste and sense; relative pitch; the ability to hear music and then transcribe it note for note; hear a song once and then play it, change the key, the style and improvise a new version; gracefully herd those cool cats you find in a studio. Meet Talking Dog Records producer Tal Ariel. Playing and riffing at the "One Day" and "Pink Flamingo Blues" sessions.

Talking Dog Records

Talking Dog Records, founded in August 2017, is a music publishing and music production service. Our first project was the album “Winner Take Nothing” by the Talking Dog All-Stars. The sessions for this started in May 2016 at studios in Oakland, Nashville and Berkeley and were mixed in Berkeley, Nashville and New York before mastering in Oakland. The Talking Dog All-Stars are the 30 studio pros (and 2 beach K-9 vocalists--see above) who played on the sessions. The CD was officially released in July 2018 and began streaming at the end of November 2019. We’ve moved on to a new project and recording began at Ocean Way Nashville Studios in June 2018 with a lover’s lament (“Alligator Shoes and Crocodile Tears”) and a murder ballad (“The Lily and the Oak”). Different arrangements and styles of both those songs and one other (“The Twilight Forest”) have been recorded back here in the Bay Area beginning in Sept. 2018. We returned to Nashville in November 2019 to complete the project. The result: two EP versions of a one act “opera” (“Alligator Shoes and Crocodile Tears: Nashville Suite and Berkeley Suite”). Mixing is underway in Nashville and will soon begin in New York with streaming available in Winter/Spring 2020.
