🙌 John Grant is here with release of 'The Art Of The Lie'! on Bella Union
John Grant began thinking about The Art of The Lie in the Autumn of 2022. Earlier that year, John had been introduced to Ivor Guest, producer and composer at Grace Jones’ Southbank show, the finale of her Meltdown Festival. They began talking about two records Guest had worked on, ‘Hurricane’ for Jones, ‘Prohibition’ for Brigitte Fontaine.

“Grace and Brigitte are two very big artists for me,” says Grant. “I love the albums he did for them. ‘Hurricane’ is an indispensable piece of Grace’s catalogue.” An idea was sparked. “I said, I really think you should do this next record with me. He said, I think you’re right.”

is embarking on a new creative project kicking it off with a collaboration with Check out their first track, 'Walk Through Fire'!
In 2016, A mutual friend pitched Yannis the opportunity to work with Tony. And so Yannis, exhausted from months of touring and admittedly a little nervous at the opportunity of meeting someone he admired, headed to a studio in Paris. It turned out to be exactly how you’d imagine a Fela Kuti studio session to look like circa 1972: African percussion instruments and analogue equipment at every turn, the glare of wall-to-wall mirrors only glazed by the thick-fog of chain-smoking.
Yannis comments;

: “There was an imperative to finish it in a way that I had never felt with another record. There was a deep duty to do it, to finish it as well as possible, and to pay respect to him by getting it out there. Going through some of the drum takes was a moving experience because those recordings were some of the last pieces of music he ever worked on.
The lead track, ‘Walk Through Fire’, immediately establishes the project as a bridge between the duo’s two cultures: irresistible funk-fuelled grooves, but with muscular punch.

born from a chord progression composed by carlos arévalo while practicing guitar and bolstered by lyrics and vocals from bardo, the album-opening “live today” emerges as an empowered meditation on cutting through the chaos and finding your own version of peace, building a gloriously bombastic mood with its slinky grooves and otherworldly synth.
About the track, Arévalo shares;
“When I brought this idea to the band, I was inspired to record a big and punchy song arrangement with minimal elements. How fat sounding could we get a completed track with a live band recording and playing their instruments in a room together at the same time, with minimal overdubs? Ol’ school, right?

Angus and Julia Stone release new single 'cape forestier' the second single and title track from forthcoming sixth studio album due for release 10th may via Play It Again Sam.
With its gentle guitar and beautifully delicate harmonies, ‘Cape Forestier’ comes paired with a video made up of unseen footage from when Angus and Julia first started making music together. It’s particularly fitting for such as personal track, as they explain:
"Cape Forestier is about a boat on a journey. I suppose it speaks to the journey we're all on in our lives—the comings and goings of love, loss, pain, and moving towards new horizons. We spent a lot of our childhood on and in the water. Elements of nature are lyrically and mythically important in our writing. The ebb and flow of tides, the changing cycles—nature so often helps us to understand our inner world.
Alongside announcing their new album last month, Angus & Julia Stone also revealed details of their forthcoming 2024 World Tour, featuring two dates in Carré Amsterdam on 11th & 12th of June'24.

Banji new single 'Mannequin' out now!!
'Mannequin' is a song that's been laying around gathering dust for quite some time. It was left on the cutting room floor because it didn't seem to fit on Freshcakes. To me, the song is about
wanting to escape from daily repetitive routines, social situations, existential dread, and daytime TV. The idea that you'd rather escape your own body and be a mannequin, than dealing with these things we all deal with.
Some of the lyrics in the beginning of the song were directly inspired by a quick trip to the grocery store where I suddenly felt so out of place and invisible at the frozen
aisle. When I got home I started experimenting with some piano chords, and Mannequin was born.

Black Pumas new album ‘Chronicles of a Diamond’ out now!
When it came time to create Chronicles of a Diamond, Black Pumas leaned into that intuitive understanding while pushing their artistry to an entirely new level. “Making this album was much different from playing acoustic guitar by myself and writing from a place of self-reflection like I have in the past,” says Burton. “It felt like a metamorphosis in a way that was both beautiful and difficult, but in the end feels more true to who we are as collaborators.” In sharing the album with the world, the band hopes to impart a similarly transformative sense of joy and discovery. “I hope when people hear the record they feel the same excitement that we felt while we were making it,” says Burton. “And I hope they understand that being excited about life isn’t synonymous with having everything you’ve always wanted—it’s something we can all choose today, and every single day moving forward.”

Today, Two Door Cinema Club embark on a new era with their new single ‘Sure Enough’. The animated anthem crackles with the trademark energy Two Door Cinema Club have spent the last decade pushing, pulling and honing to perfection.
Kicking off with a Krautrock ARP synth and sparse beats, ‘Sure Enough’ exploded into technicolour with one of the biggest hook-laden choruses of the band’s career.

New single ‘Mrs. Postman’ from Black Pumas out now!
On the song ‘Mrs. Postman,’ Black Pumas reaffirm their status as a vital force in moving the genre of soul music forward. A piano-driven serenade spotlighting the phenomenal versatility of keyboardist JaRon Marshall, the timeless yet exquisitely left-of-center track took shape from an off-the-cuff collaboration between Marshall and Quesada.
‘JaRon and I used to get together on afternoons and make hip-hop beats for fun, and ‘Mrs. Postman’ ended up coming out of one of those sessions,’ says Quesada, noting that the song marks the first time Black Pumas have co-written with another musician.
In adding his contribution to ‘Mrs. Postman,’ Burton imbued his lyrics with equal parts idiosyncratic poetry and humanistic sensitivity. ‘I was partly thinking about how much joy the postmen can bring to people’s lives, but I also wanted to encourage the people in my family and anyone else working a blue-collar job,’ he says. ‘I know from firsthand experience how arduous it can be, and I wanted to send a message saying, ‘I still see all the beauty and light in you.’

The Slow Show releases new album ‘Subtle love’ by [PIAS]
‘Subtle Love’ was written and recorded during a week long residential session in Belfast, Northern Ireland.
It was produced at the same time by Belfast musician/producer Dan Bryne-McCullough and mixed in London by Dani Bennett Spragg. The song ‘Builder Boy’ had additional production from Belfast experimental folk artist and producer Joshua Burnside.
Subtle Love reconnected the band to the thing that, arguably, matters most in life: human connection. “I don't think we realised how important that human side of making something is. To be able to go and have a pint when you're struggling, or talk to each other, or just get some support. You know, some physical, human touch,” says Rob. Subtle Love has healed wounds, pieced the band back together, and made them stronger. “There was a real brotherhood around the record,” announces Rob. “It was a really precious time. It felt like we were kids again.”
Subtle Love - The album is an ode to Love, in all it’s complexity.

Today, Midlake’s singer Tim Smith aka Fans of Harp his new album ‘Albion’, accompanied by his new single ‘I Am The Seed’.
Smith had been working for years on a set of new tracks for his debut album but he set them aside and began again when a new source of inspiration arrived. “Along came ‘80s music,” he explains. “I knew of bands and I had heard the odd song, but I had never dug deep into Joy Division, Cocteau Twins, The Smiths, Tears For Fears before.
‘Albion’ is a duo project with his wife Kathi Zung. Kathi played a large role in the drum programming. They produced, engineered and mixed it together.
The music ‘Harp’ has created is steeped in sublime melody, mood, drama and detail, its ten songs and two mood-matching instrumentals framed by a mesh of acoustic/electric guitars, soft shades of keyboards and Smith’s gorgeous voice.
