I'm truly sorry to hear of the passing of author David McCullough yesterday.

His wonderful Pulitzer Prize winning narrative biography of John Adams was the basis for the beloved HBO miniseries, and it helped cement my love of the Adams family. McCullough was the rare author who had the power to not only entertain and inform, but to alter legacies. May his memory be a blessing.

If you remember his face but the name doesn’t match up, you’re not alone. He went under the name Casey Adams for certain projects and Max Showalter for others. His name is actually Max Showalter, but 20th Century Studio box Darryl F. Zanuck reportedly didn’t like the name so he changed it to Casey Adams.

He could have played the iconic Ward Cleaver, but ended up losing the role to Hugh. Later in his career, he changed his name back to Max Showalter. You may remember the name and face in Bewitched, The Love Boat, and Perry Mason.

John Williams has 52 Academy Award nominations (second only to Walt Disney), and five wins. What is his only win for a film that was not directed by Steven Spielberg or George Lucas?

Williams won the Oscar for Best Music, Scoring Adaptation and Original Song Score for "Fiddler on the Roof" (1971). Forty-seven of Williams's nominations are for Best Original Score and five are for Best Original Song.

Williams is the father of composer and former Toto lead singer, Joseph Williams. The two worked together on "Star Wars: Episode VI - Return of the Jedi" (1983), collaborating on the song performed by the alien band in Jabba's Palace. However, the song was replaced for the Special Edition. Williams himself is the son of jazz musician John Williams, who was best known as the drummer in The Raymond Scott Quintette.

Williams's first film composition was for the 1958 B movie "Daddy-O", and his first screen credit came two years later in "Because They're Young." (IMDb/Wikipedia)

Ken Curtis played several other characters on Gunsmoke during the early years of the legendary show. He started his show business career as singer. He even replaced Frank Sinatra in the Tommy Dorsey band in 1941. From 1949 to 1952, he was the lead singer of the Sons of the Pioneers.

Curtis’ musical career lead to a contract with Columbia Pictures in 1945 and a series of starring roles in musical Westerns. Singin’ and hoorahin’ across the West seemed tailor made for this son of a Colorado sheriff with a sweet tenor voice and cowboy good looks.

While you’re biting the heads off your chocolate bunnies this weekend, you might wonder how cartoon rabbits became so central to our Easter celebrations. It’s tempting to assume that because there’s no biblical basis for the Easter Bunny, rabbits and hares have no religious significance – but that’s just not the case. The Conversation

Leviticus 11:6 states that the hare is an unclean animal: “The hare, for even though it chews the cud, it does not have divided hoofs; it is unclean for you”, but in Christian art, it is regularly associated with rebirth and resurrection.

In fact, the symbol of a circle of three hares joined by their ears has been found in a number of churches in Devon. Like much of our cultural "bunny” symbolism, the meaning of this image remains mysterious – and The Three Hares Project has been set up to research and document occurrences of the ancient symbol, examples of which have been found as far away as China.

Rabbits and hares have also been associated with Mary, mother of Jesus, for centuries. Their association with virgin birth comes from the fact that hares – often conflated mistakenly with rabbits – are able to produce a second litter of offspring while still pregnant with the first.

The death of a show's character has become fairly commonplace nowadays, but it wasn't always that way. Let's take a look at the first time a TV show dealt with the actual death of not only a character, but a beloved friend.

The Death of Dan Blocker

After 13 seasons of playing Hoss Cartwright, the easy-going, "gentle giant" brother on Bonanza, actor Dan Blocker died unexpectedly, shortly before filming was to begin for the final season (1972-1973). Only 43 at the time of his death, Blocker died on May 13, 1972, of a pulmonary embolism (a post-op blood clot to the lungs) following a "routine" gall bladder surgery.
