Electrical Fire Kills 25 at Saudi Wedding (newsy-allvideos)

Here's Al Jazeera: "A blast of celebratory gunfire ... brought down electrical cable which fell against the metal door the victims were all women and children thirty others injured." The victims, mostly women and children, were all gathered in the courtyard as part of a women-only marquee in line with traditional Saudi Arabian laws. The Daily Mail reports … "Strict rules of gender segregation in the conservative Islamic kingdom mean women are typically kept separate from men at weddings. Children at the wedding would have been with the female guests." According to Al Jazeera, Saudi Arabia banned celebratory gunfire last month, a traditional practice popular among tribal communities throughout the country. They report, incidents like this, though few and far between, have happened before. "In July 1999, 76 people died in a similar incident in the Eastern Province. Forty-three women and children were killed at a wedding in neighbouring Kuwait in 2009 when a fire engulfed a tent."
