The AmazonBai cooperative, with 144 members in the Bailique archipelago, in Amapá, signed the first direct sales contract for açaí to the United States.
The first shipment will be ten tons of freeze-dried product, a processing process that allows the pulp to be transformed into powder, which facilitates product transportation. The volume exported by the cooperative exceeds the total shipped by Amapá in 2023, when 3.9 tons of the product were sold abroad, according to data from the Ministry of Agriculture.
The deal, according to the cooperative's president, Amiraldo Picanço, should guarantee a return of R$2.4 million to the community and increase local açaí production from 75 tons per year to 350 tons this year.

About 6 kilometers from the mainland, the Maracá-Jipioca Ecological Station, also called Island of Jaguars, has the largest number of jaguars per square meter in the world, according to ICMBio. There are 6.7 ounces per 100 square kilometers, according to a survey released this Thursday (2) by the Onça-Pintada Institute. The island covers around 60 thousand hectares and intrigues researchers, who seek to understand how the jaguars ended up there.
Monitoring of jaguars at the ecological station has been carried out for 3 years, according to the Onça-Pintada Institute, which is based in Goiás. One of the objectives of the study is to understand how the species will behave with population growth. There are between 25 and 30 females at the site, which are capable of reproducing at least one offspring each year, says the Institute. The island is located in the Amazon River delta and is directly influenced by the river's flow. During monitoring, 7 jaguars were captured and received GPS collars for the study, which will show the animals' movement around the island.

Brazil surpassed the mark of 17 thousand fires and surpassed the worst four months in the history of fires recorded in the country. The data comes from the National Institute for Space Research (Inpe), linked to the federal government, and was updated on Tuesday (30). In total, 17,064 fires were recorded from January 1st to April 29th. An increase of 81% compared to the same period in 2023. The numbers also exceed the 16,988 outbreaks from January 1st to April 30th, 2003, the worst period in the historical series, which began in 1999. The states of Roraima and Mato Grosso lead the ranking of fires, with 4,609 and 4,122 fire records, respectively. The biomes with the highest number of fires recorded this year are:
Amazon - 8,969 fires - 52.6% of the total
Cerrado - 4,506 fires - 26.4%
Atlantic Forest - 1,746 fires - 10.2%
Caatinga - 1,115 fires - 6.5%
Pantanal - 646 fires - 3.8%
The observed record is related to the occurrence of the El Niño phenomenon, which is the warming of the Pacific Ocean, causing an increase in temperature over the continent and a decrease in rainfall, especially in the northern part of the Amazon, north of Ecuador, says Inpe. The Institute highlights that in addition to climate issues, human action continues to be one of the factors that causes greater degradation of the environment.
