A 50-year-old time capsule was recently recovered in Whitehorse, Yukon. Only two people remain who knew about this buried treasure. It was thanks to one of them, Donna Clayson, who ensured it was unearthed. Soon, the contents will be revealed by a conservator who has been tasked with making sure the delicate items are preserved.

Growing pineapples at home at an off-grid cabin? Who knew this was possible? Well, apparently, it's quite possible.
Dawson City resident Andrew Timms has done something he believes no resident has done before. He's grown his own pineapples — an experiment he says all started with a trip to the grocery store and a little curiosity.

It's a wonderful time of the year in the Yukon.
Fall colour on Keno Hill, Yukon Territory. The cabin is a building from the Sheep Camp mining camp which was running in the 1920's. I just love fall in the Yukon Territory.

Found amongst the summer photos of an unknown Teslin airport employee circa 1960. These tents were heavy, ugly, and needed an engineering degree to assemble.

Have you been to Tombstone yet? It's a magical place.
One of my favorite places that we have visited in the Yukon is Tombstone Territorial Park. Fall transforms the park into something spectacular. The tundra is painted with colour and texture from the many types of shrubs, grasses, plants and lichens. It is a feast for the eyes, leaving me with an insatiable appetite for more.
Lucky kids! What a great program.

Today marks the 50th anniversary of the 1,000-mile-long sled dog race across Alaska known as the Iditarod. This afternoon, teams leave Willow for the long trek to Nome.
And today I made my documentary film Everything It Takes about Mary Helwig's bid to reach Nome back in 2016 publicly available for free on YouTube as well as on Vimeo.
Shortly before Mary Helwig signed up to fulfill her dream of running the Iditarod, she lost nearly everything she owned in the Sockeye Fire. The film Everything It Takes documents the year of Mary’s life leading up to race day as she and her dogs rebuild their lives while struggling to prepare for the challenge of a lifetime.
Here are the links if you wish to see the film (running time is 59 min):

I remember the 2007 flood all too well. Stay safe my friends! Here's hoping the water levels drop before any flooding occurs.

Not the Yukon, but next door in B.C. Watch this very short video all the way through-- it's breathtaking. This First Nations man lives in Fort Nelson and his YouTube channel is all about tanning moose hides using traditional methods, living off the land, and being an authentic person.

My flint and steel with char cloth arrived today from The Pathfinder School. Will make a nice addition to my fero rods and friction fire making tools. But it will take some practice to use the flint and steel effectively. Any tips out there?
A big welcome to all of the many new folks who have recently joined us. Feel free to say hello and introduce yourselves.
Summer is winding down in the Yukon and for many, the focus is now turned toward filling the freezer with meat in advance of winter arriving. There are really only two seasons in the north: winter, and getting ready for winter.
Yikes!
