📣 Ahsan Jamal’s ‘24 Carat Ghazal’ opening tomorrow at 6pm 💛

“24 Carat Ghazal" extends the narrative of Ahsan’s previous exhibition, “Export Quality Made in Pakistan,” by further exploring the ideas of up cycling imported waste. The term "24 Carat" represents the highest purity of gold and other jewels. The "Ghazal," a poetic form with deep roots in South Asian culture, traditionally addresses themes of spiritual and romantic love, the pain of loss, and the beauty that emerges parallel with pain.

24 Carat Ghazal is used as metaphor to paint the response of waste recipients to affluent waste-generators. Whether the waste is physical, emotional or intellectual, the process of up cycling touches all the nerves, creating a dialogue that suggests the elevation of global consciousness.

On view: On view: ‘Aftermath,’ by Maggi Hambling at Thomas Brambilla Gallery.

‘Aftermath’ features a number of sculptures that started out as abandoned dead wood fragments. From twisted natural shapes, Hambling has summoned the existence of made-up creatures. The sculptures, which are at once human and animal, familiar and otherworldly, present a range of emotions and have resonance throughout art history, spanning from Surrealism to medieval polychromy. The bizarre creatures of ‘Aftermath’ combine the energy of life with the shapes of the ancient past, such as gargoyles, grave portraits, and relics, to produce potent modern sculptures.

The sculptures reveal varied characteristics and meanings depending on how they are seen or lit, consistent with Baudelaire’s definition of sculpture as both elusive and imprecise.

On view until June 28 at Thomas Brambilla, Bergamo.

Congratulations miss Hoor Al Qasimi

We are thrilled to announce our president and director Hoor Al Qasimi has been appointed as the Artistic Director of the 25th Biennale of Sydney!

Scheduled to take place from 7 March to 8 June 2026, Al Qasimi will collaborate with local communities, artists and academics, whilst drawing on her own international network, to develop and realise the concept of the Biennale.

‘It is an honour and privilege to be nominated and then selected to be the Artistic Director of the 25th Biennale of Sydney, which I have been visiting for over a decade now. I have seen the developments over the years, including the amplification of Indigenous voices both local and global, which has made it an essential platform for rewriting art history,’ says Al Qasimi.
