After much long and hard thought, I’ve decided NOT to put the catalogue back up on the streamers. My entire career was spent avoiding the corporate practices of the major labels, and at this point in time, I am not eager to participate in the even more exploitative practices of corporate IT platforms.

I know this is the equivalent of practically erasing the label and myself from musical history, but so be it. It’s still in circulation in people’s collections, and with DJs, and anybody who really wants to hear it can find it easily enough on SoundCloud or Bandcamp. Or cd. If someone can’t be bothered to listen to it if it’s not conveniently available on Spotify for them, well, boo-hoo. Many are the valuable experiences in life that require some inconvenience. .

Corporate control of pretty much everything, — including this platform I’m on right now which directly inhibits my ability to talk to this community unless I pay them every time I do so — is just getting so out of hand. I don’t wanna be a part of it. 

There’s also the idea that listening to music is kind of like turning on the tap at the sink these days. You never really learn to value water until it’s scarce, maybe that’s what we need to be doing with music as well. Everything everywhere all the time leads to a sort of flattening effect  and with 100,000 songs being uploaded to the streamers every day, many of them now AI, the “ensh*ttification” of music proceeds even faster.

Having said that, if people know of any other independent outlets where they’d like to see the music available, let me know.

The Black Angel was based in a desire to return to a more “live”, improv-based style of recording, with an emphasis on flow and in-the-moment decisions. These recordings were done using a basic set-up of one FM drum machine, two keyboards, a sampler, and a mixer with a couple of FX units for dubbing. Drawing on a different set of ambient influences —artists like Muslim Gauze, Cabaret Voltaire and Klaus Wiese — I programmed a few sequences & patterns, did a few practice runs, then turned on record and did the full takes live, but with studio quality sound. The three tracks are intended as one complete journey. Deep cuts, head music.

** 2 ** limited prints of the EP’s artwork will go on sale upon release on Bandcamp tomorrow from 9:00 pm Japan-time (12:00 noon, GMT). Purchase of a print includes a download and streaming of the EP.

The new Jinniyah single drops tomorrow on Bandcamp at 9:00 PM Japan time (1:00 PM GMT) along with a limited edition print!  We’ve upgraded the quality of the prints considerably, both in upscaling and the paper & ink used to print upon, and they look great! 

This is the beginning of a series of releases, which will be dropping bi-monthly, each one feat. new tracks accompanied by a limited edition print of the artwork.

I had been hoping to make some of these T-shirts available on Bandcamp , but with the post pandemic shipping rates now, it costs $25 - $28 USD to send one shirt overseas! I don’t think this is feasible 😕, but if anyone really wants one, DM me.
