Purananooru, a Sangam literature, is a collection of Tamil poems speaking of bravery, courage, war and great leadership.

This poem, written by வன்பரணர், depicts a woman’s reaction upon finding her husband’s body on the battle field:

'ஐயோ!’ எனின்யான் புலி அஞ்சுவலே;
அணைத்தனன் கொளினே அகன்மார்பு எடுக்கவல்லேன்;
என்போல் பெருவிதிர்ப்பு உறுக நின்னை

At the same time, the only badass female character in Tamil movies I can remember was Neelambari - who was powerful, but also a little...unstable. Even when you listen to Tamil songs - 90% of the time, you're hearing men sing powerful songs about being heroes, and the womxn are usually either singing item songs, or high-pitched love songs.
