An influencer network recently released the results of its 2023 influencer compensation study. One question asked micro influencers what they'd expect to get paid for an Instagram campaign if they had 1,000 or 10,000 followers. The results, $251.76 and $1318.79, respectively.

3 Reasons Brands LOVE Microinfluencers [save this post]

STRONG COMMUNITY- smaller audiences mean creators can spend more time building relationships with their followers. This can lead to higher engagement rates on posts and a stronger sense of trust!

HIGHER ROI- while your follower count doesn’t always dictate your rate, it’s definitely a reason why brands love partnering with micro influencers! Why collab with one creator for $50K when you could work with 10 smaller influencers for higher reach?

LOCAL AUDIENCES- if a national brand needs to target a certain demographic in your area, they can partner with a microinfluencer to help get the word out! Ex: think a Starbucks drink only available at certain locations, etc.

Chronological feeds are BACK!!

You can now select how you want to view your IG feed. Here's what you do:

Click on 'Instagram' in the top left corner and select whether you want to see who you are following or your favorites. Whichever you select will be shown in chronological order. It's that simple!

Note: When you add people to your favorites, they will not be notified that they have been favorited or removed.

Also, as always, Instagram rolls things out in waves. So, if you don't see the option yet. It's coming!

Be sure to 'favorite' to learn about new campaigns and influencer tips that will help you get paid!

Content Creator Equipment 📸 What’s one thing that you invested in to improve the quality of your content?

I’ve been creating since 2018 and have upgraded my equipment over time. All of these aren’t a must, but they can take your content to the next level.

When I started my page, I had an iPhone 6S Plus. No ring light, no tripod, nothing extra — but I still showed up + improved as time went on. We all start somewhere!

Don’t feel like you have to wait until you buy a camera or have a luxurious setup to create content. Do it now!

Your influence is your business.

Whether influencing for you is a side hustle or a full-time job, you should treat it like a business. This means being able to deliver and on time! It means having your back office in order, such as accounting matters (we highly recommend QuickBooks). This means setting aside time for admin tasks (or delegating) to ensure nothing falls through the cracks.

If your influence is putting coins in your pocket, you should treat it like a business.

What ways can you better get your business in order? Delegating? Organizing? Time management?

What are some exceptions to the rule?

👀 ALWAYS move the conversation to e-Mail — it’s how you hold brands accountable to the conversations had (and it’s more professional that way). Exception if they just want to ask you a quick, low-risk question like your address to send you something from their brand!

👀 NEVER pay upfront for anything, except when a brand is asking you to purchase material yourself and your contract states you’ll be reimbursed in full.

👀 Speaking of contracts…no contract, no collab. This is THE most important rule and if you don’t have one, charge the brand a legal fee so you can go buy a contract. Only exception is when you’re simply being gifted something without the guarantee to post.

👀 Sometimes, brands will require you to connect to their platforms to collect analytics or participate in a campaign. So long as the brand and platform you’re being asked to use are VETTED (aka, Google them) then you should be in the clear.

If you want to work with brands, STOP and read this!

Brands are all about their ROI - Return on Investment. Was the partnership worth it for them? Did those dollars make cents (sense)?

So, here is something to consider as an influencer -- Are you likely to give brands a return on their investment when they partner with you or do you just have a bunch of followers for vanity metrics?

When we are scouting influencers for campaigns, we don't just look at your follower count. We primarily look at engagement. How many people are liking, commenting, engaging with your content? Is your audience likely to convert to customers or are they constantly just commenting "Cute pic!"?

We've worked with influencers who had the least amount of followers of others in the campaign, yet have the most engagement on their content.

Also, it's not uncommon for brands to work with influencers over and over again when they deliver quality content and they see a return on their investment, whether that is creating brand awareness, sales, website visits, etc.

Want to build those long-term partnerships with brands, make sure the brand is getting a return on their investment!
