Could you volunteer with NHS Lothian?

As this week is National Volunteers Week (Monday 3 June โ€“ Sunday 9), NHS Lothian are putting out a call for new volunteers in the West Lothian area.

There are a number of opportunities to work with patients and staff in St Johnโ€™s Hospital in Livingston.

Agnes Ritchie, Associate Nurse Director in St Johnโ€™s Hospital, said: โ€œWe welcome volunteers from all walks of life and they are a valued part of the St Johnโ€™s team, thanks to the incredible support they give to both staff and patients.

โ€œParticularly on National Volunteers Week, I would like to say a thank you to all the Volunteers currently working in St Johnโ€™s for making a difference to peopleโ€™s lives through their daily acts of kindness, care and compassion.โ€

As well St Johnโ€™s Hospital, there are also volunteer opportunities in other sites around West Lothian including Tippethill in Armadale, and Maple Villa in Craigshill.

Currently the Health Board has over 100 volunteers in the West Lothian area but are eager to welcome more. Roles include Ward Helpers, Welcome Guides, Meaningful Activity volunteers, Ward Visitors, Gardeners and more.

Mark, one of the Welcome Guides in St Johnโ€™s, said โ€œWe provide patients and visitors with directions to wards and departments in a timely manner, helping to ease any stress or anxiousness that they may feel. Itโ€™s a valuable service and people often come back to thank us.โ€

There are also volunteering roles for Drivers, A&E Helpers, Complementary Therapists and Befrienders.

Claire Garton, Voluntary Services Manager, West Lothian said: โ€œVolunteering offers a chance to build your skills, knowledge and experience while also giving back to your community. Our volunteers always tell us that their roles are really fulfilling, and they make great friends along the way. We are looking for volunteers from all walks of life and look forward to welcoming you to our team of volunteers.โ€
